In addition to gas and gasoline stoves, a lightweight hobo should also be included in the equipment. Today in the test: The TOAKS Titanium Hobo with the matching 1100ml pot.
Why a hobo? Hobos (origin "hobo" here on Wikipedia) are compact stoves that work on the chimney effect. Most of them are able to burn biomass (wood, leaves, moss), fuel tablets, fuel paste, and alcohol - so they are extremely versatile.
The TOAKS Titanium Backpacking Wood Burning Stove weighs 225 grams. Titanium is lighter than stainless steel and stronger than aluminum, so you have - unfortunately often at a higher price - the best of both worlds.
Packed, the stove measures 10.5 x 10.5 cm. This is possible because the three-part system is nested. When fully assembled, the stove is then 10.5 cm in diameter x 20.5 cm.
The stove is delivered in a lightweight pack sack, color orange. So that the space inside is not wasted, you can perfectly store tinder, tea, dishes, or similar items here. TOAKS also offers a titanium pot with a capacity of 1100ml to match the stove. Here, the stove fits perfectly into the pack sack, protecting the pot from getting dirty.
The Toaks 1100ml Pot, also made of titanium, weighs 140 grams with lid, the accompanying pack sack weighs 20 grams. The dimensions of the pot are 125mm in diameter and 112mm in height. On the padded pack sack, there is a slot for cutlery. The lid has air holes and a loop for lifting, and there are two folding handles for lifting. Alternatively, there is a version that, in addition to the folding handles, also has a handle.
On the outside, there are markings (embossed - so you can also see them on the inside) for 0.4 liters and 0.8 liters, with lines between them for 0.2 liters and 0.6 liters. The 1.1 liters can only be reached if the pot is filled to the brim. In practice, you can fit a liter in, but you have to be careful that the contents do not overflow.
When the stove is assembled, you can initially add the fuel from the top. Once the fire is burning properly and you have set up the pot, the fuel is supplied through a larger opening.
If the fuel is thin enough, it can also be supplied through the air holes.
Despite the chimney effect, fuel needs to be constantly added; if this is neglected, the stove will quickly go out or there will not be much left except for the embers in the lower area. However, a short burst of air can help reignite the fire.
Just under a liter of water takes about 10 minutes to boil at about 15 degrees Celsius.
The stove also works well with larger pots; here is a can of ravioli cooked in the same 10 minutes.
It should be mentioned that the base must be chosen wisely: on the one hand so that the stove can draw air properly and on the other hand - to avoid quickly causing a fire:
We have been using the stove for over a year now and are very satisfied with the combination. The compact size combined with the weight and volume of just under a liter is ideal for most outdoor dishes. Even tea or coffee can be prepared quickly.
CONCLUSION: The TOAKS Titanium Backpacking Wood Burning Stove with the TOAKS Titanium 1100ml Pot is the ideal companion for outdoor trips, bug out bags, or as a general emergency stove. Weighing just under 450 grams and with a diameter of 10.5cm, the complete set fits anywhere, the perfect solution when gas or gasoline stoves are not available. By using titanium, you have higher stability than would be possible with aluminum and don't have to worry about the coating coming loose on the pot.
You can get the TOAKS Titanium Backpacking Wood Burning Stove and the TOAKS Titanium 1100ml Pot at Spezial Depot. The stove costs 69.95€, and the pot is available for 52.95€. Alternatively, there is also a smaller version of the stove with matching pots available - in short, a comprehensive range of titanium products from TOAKS.
