The Adaptive Vest System by Crye Precision is one of the most versatile plate carriers we know. You can find the original by Crye HERE in the SPARTANAT Review. In addition to the licensed clone by Z-Shot (with permission from Crye), there is also the one by TMC (Without a license). What can it do? Today we take a look at the TMC Modular Assault Vest System Plate Carrier 2019 Version.
Multicam Black is, of course, a special color, currently the number 1 fashion camo. TMC also offers the AVS System in Multicam, AOR1, Coyote, Black, and Ranger Green. There was even PenCott GreenZone, but it's sold out. In Multicam Black, there is only a limited edition by Crye, available at US Elite Gear, where the set with Back Panel and a radio pouch costs a joyful 1,400 dollars, recently reduced to 999 dollars on Black Friday. That is more than a tenth of the TMC clone in the base amount.
Well, clone. Setting aside morals: the material is very similar in many ways. TMC works with the real fabric, but there are differences in details like webbing. The stitching is also coarser than the original, but overall, it's a frighteningly good replica. Let's go through it in detail: here is the chest area with Velcro.
Above that is the admin pouch, where you can store maps and pens. If you want to improve, you can attach a zipper here. It's just more convenient than Velcro.
The TMC comes with the MOLLE flap, where you can attach pockets according to your wishes. But there are also the classic flap with sealed compartments and also a TYR clone with MOLLE and three magazine slots with bungee.
The flap is secured at the bottom after closing with a snap button...
This is it opened up. You can see that the flap is attached with four straps of Velcro, so it can also be easily replaced. Of course, you can also adapt the whole thing with clips so that the belly pouch is replaced by a micro rig. The Velcro is actually of the brutal kind, it holds really strong. Coming from the right and left are the AirLite Cumberbund, the rib cage, but here on the right is also the wing of the carrying structure, which is normally threaded behind the plate, but here lazily Velcroed in the front. Because it's more comfortable to do...
This is the shoulder area, you can see the carrying structure. The shoulder can also be additionally padded.
This set includes: a simple Cumberbund strap, shoulder pads or black stretch covers, and spare parts for the release system. That's what we call service.
Here you can see the basic structure, the radio pouch is also a clone of the Crye Pouch Suit.
The back piece is Velcro and MOLLE with two zips on the right and left side.
The shoulder suspension with large D-rings. The company name is typically displayed on the original version for easy identification.
Velcro is also on the backside, with a pull tab at the top.
This is the rescue handle. The functionality of this feature is often questioned, as it may be more stable to grab and pull from the shoulders.
On the back, MOLLE allows for customization of pocket placement.
Here you can see the detailed workmanship: the basic structure and cummerbund coming together, along with the backplate. Loops are made of Hypalon, the stays in the two-line cummerbund do not match the original material but are made of a stronger plastic. Everything is neatly stitched and well made.
The interior design ensures that the AVS is comfortable to wear even when fully loaded with equipment. It is extremely modular, allowing for customization from a simple plate carrier with two plate pockets to a fully loaded version as shown here. The two-line cummerbund can be replaced with a one-line version or omitted altogether. As mentioned earlier, TMC also offers a clone of the Crye Pouch Suit.
The Pouch Zip-On Panel 2.0 is also available as a replica, sold separately. Unlike the TMC AVS, this one features a black-and-yellow Multicam Black imitation pattern without the full design. More recent replicas now offer true Multicam Black. While the quality may seem inferior and the price may be lower compared to the original, it is fully functional as additional storage space on the back.
Here you can see the attachment loops and the two zips, which are compatible with the authentic AVS. The 2.0 version of the panel includes two horizontal magazine pockets at the bottom. There are also other replica options available such as the MOLLE Zip-On platform or the Zip-on Pack 2.0 for those interested in swapping or collecting different versions.
After the Hypalon has been Sleeved, just zip it up. The storm pack is ready.
Top view. The panel is only so flat because it is not filled. By the way, it also fits a hydration bladder. You can see the carrying structure nicely.
Here is the shoulder with the quick release. It can also be switched from right to left, as needed.
A handle for removal. There are also people who exchange it for a Cobra.
And then open it around the waist and the AVS can be dropped.
There we have the full AVS in hand. The Combat Pant is a TMC Gen3 in Multicam Black - HERE in the SPARTANAT review.
This is what the part looks like on the inside. You can see the loops on the plate pockets. The carrying structure is fluffy on the inside, where you can attach pads , but they are not included in this kit. Between the parts of the carrying structure, you can see the zigzag width adjustment (spare parts are available for that). The most noticeable difference you can feel is that this structure is not quite as stiff as the original. Does that bother us? ... Hardly.

CONCLUSION: When it comes to clone wars, you almost get scared here. TMC delivers a frighteningly good copy of an AVS, made with original materials, solidly crafted in detail with differences at a price that is one-tenth of the original.
You can get the TMC Modular Assault Vest System Plate Carrier 2019 Version in Multicam Black at WEAPON762 for 129.99 Euro. That's also the cost for the other camo variants Multicam and AOR1. The monochrome TMC AVS in Coyote, Ranger Green, and Black cost only 89.90 Euro.
