REVIEW: TMC Gen4 Combat Trouser with Knee Pads

06/02/2022By Redaktion

At their knees you shall recognize them, the pants from Crye Precision. The generations have different knee inserts, and the ones in the image above are from G4. The original set of Combat Shirt and Combat Pant G4 from Crye Precision was introduced to you in the SPARTANAT Review here. What we are showing you today is the G4 clone from TMC in Ranger Green.

This is how it looks on a person. Stylish pants, good cut. Only one knee pad is inserted here. The biggest difference from original to replica is the material: Crye uses a pajama-like, very lightweight fabric. TMC has opted for solid NYCO RipStop, which is not quite as lightweight. What remains is a superb operational pant.

Let's focus on the details: The best feature is opened with velcro and a zipper.

At the hips, there is flexibility with a pull tab and elastic.

The pants accommodate wide belts; here we have the inner belt of our BLACK TRIDENT Range Belt.

Two back pockets with flaps. They may seem a bit deep at first, but it's fine.

Do good and talk about it. Inside is the TMC tag with a clear: Made in China. The quality of workmanship on the pants is top-notch.

It's all about the pockets. The pants pockets are deep like Russia, if one can still say that.

A flashlight or pocket knife has its own slot.

In front are the thigh pockets, not sewn on, but recessed.

And lined with mesh inside. The pants can be ventilated when it's hot. A larger smartphone fits in this pocket.

Flap of the side thigh pocket open. The pocket knife comes out surprisingly smoothly.

In the thigh, there is an elastic band. Magazines or a water bottle can be secured here.

These are the new Knee Pads. Easily recognizable by the waffle pattern. TMC also offers them in several colors. The main difference from the original is that the cap is made of a harder plastic. With the G3, there was a problem of them popping out when kneeling, but with the G4, we didn't notice this issue.

Inserting them can be a bit of a pain. It is easier to do it when the pants are not being worn. The opening edge has Velcro and so does the edge under the cap, requiring some patience. By the way, there is no stretch in the pants, which is not an issue.

The fit is adjusted at the back with a strap.

And a big advantage: they are where they should be. This is because the pants are in the original cut. If you normally wear a size 36R, for example, it will fit the same here. However, not all in-between sizes like L and S are available.

The inevitable thigh pocket for driving. It is also sunken. How do you use it?

At the bottom, which is not kept closed, you can adjust how you want it with a Velcro strap.

And here is the complete TMC G4 on the man. From the back, it looks very normal, which we like.

CONCLUSION: Real pants in replica form is always a controversial topic. Since we don't want moral discussions, we'll just say what we think of the pants: they are great. Crye has done a great job. Especially the pocket layout and functionality are great. That's exactly how we want it. And TMC? They provide a perfectly crafted clone, available in original sizes. As the Americans say, "Pang for the Buck!" A full-fledged pair of pants at an extremely attractive price.

The TMC Gen4 Combat Trouser with Knee Pads in Ranger Green is available directly at WEAPON762 for 69.99 Euro. They are also available in Multicam and Tiger Stripe.
