In the summer of 2015, we first introduced you to the Templars Gear Light Plate Carrier (TG-TPC) in a short review. Since we liked the product so much and a wide range of accessories is now available, we are showing it to you in detail again today.
Templars Gear from Poland is a small gear forge that specializes mainly in laser-cut products, available in Germany at BEST PROTECTION. The core of the range is the Light Plate Carrier, or TPC. This is based on the Crye JPC, but with some improvements and at a much better price.
The concept of the plate carrier is fully modular. So you don't buy a complete vest like with many plate carriers and then have to exchange parts or buy modular pockets, but configure the plate carrier just the way you want it.
The basic structure consists of front and back parts. Here you choose between sizes Medium and Large - the size depends on the plates used and matches accordingly (Medium Plate = Medium Carrier, Large Plate = Large Carrier).
Both parts are held together by Velcro-adjustable straps. These are skeletonized to save weight, but at the same time wide enough to ensure comfortable wearing.
If that's not comfortable enough for you, or if you need additional storage space for cables and hoses, you can also choose comfort shoulder pads here, which are then attached to the actual shoulder strap via Velcro.
The front is sewn in the shape of a protective plate to allow for as much freedom of movement as possible. On the chest, you will find two rows of laser-cut MOLLE, four slots per row. Directly below the first row is a Velcro field for patches across the width of the slots. Below that are two more rows of slots, this time with six slots in two rows. To the right and left of them are two regular MOLLE loops per side, arranged vertically and at a 45-degree angle.
These loops are perfect for clip-on chest rigs, mounts for radio buttons, or an ITW Webdominator, as seen in the pictures. On the outside right next to the vertical loop, there is also a Velcro pouch designed for cables or drinking hoses.
On the belly of the front part is a large Velcro field with a flap on top. This is where the cummerbund is closed and the chosen front module is fixed under the flap. More information about the cummerbunds and front modules will follow right after the basic structure.
The back of the plate carrier is simple: in the shoulder area you will find a rescue loop that is secured with Velcro. Below that are two rows of laser-cut MOLLE with 4 slots and 8 (or 9 rows on Large) with 6 slots MOLLE.
This is great for attaching small assault packs like the Haley Flatpack (review here).
