Micro rigs are gaining popularity everywhere. Tasmanian Tiger is now on board. We took a detailed look at their minimalist Chest Rig, the Small Combi Rig.
Here's the Small Combi Rig on a person with gear. The knowledgeable observer will notice that AK-47 magazines fit in, which are always a bit harder to accommodate. At first glance, the Small Combi Rig definitely looks good. It has everything you need for a trip to the range. Thanks to the laser-cut MOLLE/PALS, you can also expand the rig with additional pouches, but not only that.
The Small Combi Rig is definitely modular. In the image, you can see it broken down into its individual parts. Like others you may know from Spiritus Systems and similar, the Small Combi Rig can be expanded with Velcro. It doesn't overwhelm you with Velcro, as some others do, because the adhesive material has been used sparingly but effectively in comparison.
A place with useful Velcro is the magazine pouch with dimensions of 24 x 14 x 3 cm. Here you can insert various dividers or inlays. To ensure the magazines are not lost, adjustable round rubber fasteners are included.
Two pistol/submachine gun inserts for two magazines each, and a 3-magazine insert for 5.56mm magazines are included in the delivery.
For more specific magazine shapes, four insertable dividers are also included.
These can be used to create unique loadouts, as shown in the image. This is for illustrative purposes only, so no worries. In the image from left to right: G36, HK417, and PMag. We've already shown you that AKM magazines fit as well.
On the side, there are two wings available for additional pouches. Here, laser-cut MOLLE is used.
To ensure the side pouches stay securely on the body, two Paracord loops are sewn in, through which the harness should be threaded. A simple but very effective solution.
On the back, the wings have Velcro strips. This is not only to prevent any rubbing, but also to attach additional pouches.
But some thought was put into the Small Combi Rig, the Velcro strips can also be used as MOLLE/PALS, so you can attach pockets on the inside and outside of the side wings at the same time, if that is conducive for you.
At the bottom of the Small Combi Rig, a small waist bag can be attached. This measures about 20 x 10 x 5 cm and can also be mounted directly on a Plate Carrier or the Modular Gunners Pack.
The underside of the bag is equipped with a drawstring and stretch material. This compartment is perfect for a tourniquet.
On the back, there are a total of six rubber loops available, the perfect place for glow sticks, pens, or shotgun shells.
The Small Combi Rig in its most minimal form, just three magazines, nothing else. The perfect loadout for a short day at the shooting range. The rest of the stuff is always on the gunbelt anyway.
But it can be even more minimal, without straps and the rear Velcro area exposed. Some will already guess what's next.
With the included buckles, the Small Combi Rig can be attached to the Plate Carrier.
Simply snap in and connect the Velcro areas.
And there the Small Combi Rig adorns your ballistic protection and everything is as you are used to. We are big fans of this fastening method.
The carrying straps are solidly designed on the Small Combi Rig. They serve their purpose and are comfortable. The "H-Harness" variant was chosen, with the shoulder straps forming an "H" on the back. The waist belt offers a central buckle. When combined with a backpack, this can lead to pressure points over time, but there is enough webbing available for you to position the buckle to the side.
The details of the shoulder straps. There are also several laser-cut MOLLE/PALS slots available to you.
The straps on the Small Combi Rig are 5.5cm wide and lightly padded.
One detail that we really like is that all buckles are interchangeable without tools, in case something breaks. The buckles are called "SR 25 Safety QA" and can also be purchased in pairs.
CONCLUSION: A lot of things were done right with the Small Combi Rig. A very good balance between useful velcro and MOLLE was found. The Small Combi Rig does what it's supposed to do, it's small and a true chest rig, and all at a very fair price. Additionally, it is extremely versatile. We have grown fond of it.
The Small Combi Rig from Tasmanian Tiger is available from 100 euros in Black, Olive, Khaki, and Coyote Brown at all retailers that carry TASMANIAN TIGER.
