"Slicks" is what small, smooth plate carriers are called in American. And to get the pun out of the way: smooth is cool. Slicks don't really do much more than carry the plates. That's not such a bad performance, because after all, that's what they are made for. Tasmanian Tiger now also has such a companion: the Plate Carrier LP - HERE on the TT page - suitable for discreet, covert work. The LP from the front. Even without a shirt over it, it is a very inconspicuous plate carrier in black. Here it is lined with SK4 plates and equipped with a radio.
The shoulder area is laser cut and reminds a bit of a JPC. The front and back can be velcroed together so that the plates fit properly. There is also a stretch pant covering the adjustment range. In the front on the chest: Velcro for patches. (One can never have enough patches.)
There is always something to organize. Therefore, the Plate Carrier LP has an admin compartment, which is closed with velcro and has loops so that everything does not fly around in the compartment. Always nice to see: the TT logo animal, the little Tasmanian Tiger.
On the side, Tasmanian Tiger opts for less and more. In essence, it is the two stretchable straps that hold the plate pockets together, but there is also a pocket made of 4-way stretch material on the front. Practical: this is where the radio can be inserted. Or, with both sides loaded, two full M4 magazines can fit.
It closes in the front with Velcro. But not everything needs to be velcroed. Clever detail: a strip velcroed over the Velcro. Also, the cumberbund is easier to loosen this way.
Everything inside is mesh, so that the ventilation is right when worn. Those who wear plate carriers always sweat.
Even the back is made of flexible material. Velcro area for a patch. That's always good.
CONCLUSION: You don't always need a complete carrier loaded with MOLLE. This one protects without taking on extra load beyond plates (OK, two magazines fit). Therefore, we recommend this plate carrier for the "Gray Man" - HERE is the article on urban survival. Plates on the person, well protected and inconspicuous.
However, a bit of a shame that TT downplays it and writes "not for infantry use". It may be true, but with a chest rig over the Plate Carrier LP, you have a complete system. So from there: two loops on the chest and you could even have the option to attach clips for a rig. But what is not there can always be added...
You can find the Tasmanian Tiger Plate Carrier LP at all retailers that carry TT. It costs 65 Euro.
