Today we want to take a closer look at the latest special backpack from TASMANIAN TIGER, the Modular Gunners Pack. This small assault pack is designed to carry everything you need for a direct mission.
Don't let the name fool you, like it did for us initially. The Modular Gunners Pack is not specifically designed for machine gunners, but for all shooters out there.
Initially, it was intended for MG gunners, but the design became more universal, keeping only the name. It is about carrying more ammunition, more grenades, and everything you might need in combat that doesn't fit on the front of your armor.
Let's get into the details: The Modular Gunners Pack is 43 cm high, 26 cm wide and up to 10 cm thick. It offers a total volume of 14 liters. It is also lightweight, weighing just under 900 g, thanks to T-Square Rip FD, a type of Ripstop Nylon, and CORDURA 700d. As always with TT, the quality of workmanship is very good.
Starting with the exterior pockets. At the top, you have a zipped pocket with 2 liters of capacity. It is equipped with Lasercut MOLLE/PALS on the outside.
There is no further division inside this pocket.
On both sides, the pocket is secured with two small buckles because it can be folded down. Behind it, there is a velcro area.
The Modular Gunners Pack includes two small and one large magazine inserts for 3 x M4 magazines or 4 x pistol/MP7 magazines.
But it can also accommodate other magazines. In the image, from left to right, you can see AK-47, M4, and G36 (not cleaned). The small inserts can also fit 40mm grenades or smaller irritants, sound and light. Everything can be secured with round elastic bands. A very well-thought-out feature.
At the bottom of the Modular Gunners Pack, you'll find a small zipped pocket with a 1-liter volume. There is a velcro strip sewn on the outside.
Also underneath, between the back and main compartment, you'll find velcro. Here you can attach a Tac Pouch 12 or the TT 2 SGL Backup Mag Pouch M4. Very convenient.
Let's move on to the two 1 liter large center pockets. Here you can see the T-Square Rip FD material in close-up.
These two zippered pockets on the Modular Gunners Pack are only attached with Velcro.
"Only" sounds a bit harsh now, they hold tight and are additionally secured with straps.
When removed, MOLLE/PALS Velcro is revealed with 24.5 x 19 cm. The PALS columns are arranged horizontally so you can pull out magazines better if you attach MOLLE magazine pouches and turn the pack into a pure ammunition carrier.
Also included with the Modular Gunners Pack is a long round rubber band with cord stopper. You can thread it through the loops and use it to attach jackets or similar to the pack.
A perfect fit for the Velcro area is an interior organization bag from the Modular Pack 45+ or 30. With the round rubber band, this is additionally secured and compressed. Of course, you can attach whatever you like here. The Modular Gunners Pack is essentially the backpack with the largest patch area from TASMANIAN TIGER.
Here are two usage variants compared directly. Left as delivered, right with a different center pocket.
Now to the main compartment. You can access it with a two-way zipper from YKK.
Inside, the Modular Gunners Pack offers a familiar layout. MOLLE/PALS Velcro and a hanger for the hydration bladder. In the bottom area, you will find a rubber band across the full width. The main compartment measures around 43 x 26 x 5 cm and offers a volume of 9 liters.
The lid is equipped with two zippered mesh pockets. This is not a mesh fabric, but the new transparent material that we could already admire in the TASMANIAN TIGER Urban Tac Pack 22 and is found on all 2021 backpack models.
Those who wish to do so can limit the opening width of the main compartment. Simply thread the supplied round rubber loops through the designated loops.
A hydration tube outlet should never be missing, such as in the Modular Gunners Pack.
Now onto the carrying system of the Modular Gunners Pack. Overall, you have three options for carrying it.
One is by shoulder straps. Tried and true, and works as intended. The chest strap is included.
On the back, you can see how compact the Modular Gunners Pack is.
The second option is to attach the Modular Gunners Pack directly to a plate carrier or large backpack using PALS. As you can see, the shoulder straps are detachable or replaceable.
The third option, our favorite with the Modular Gunners Pack, is to detachably attach it to the plate carrier. To do this, use the supplied snap buckle adapters.
Here is a direct comparison between carrying options one and three.
The Modular Gunners Pack only needs to be connected to the plate carrier at the shoulders and waist without the need for assistance from your companions.
The process is well shown in the video. If you need something from the backpack, you can easily access it yourself with this carrying option, which is a unique advantage.
Another great advantage is the quick release with the TASMANIAN TIGER Plate Carrier QR LC works without restrictions.

CONCLUSION: The Modular Gunners Pack is somewhere between a lightweight assault pack and a back panel for a plate carrier, as it can be used as both. It is a functional bag system that keeps your additional mission essentials easily accessible. Thanks to the various carrying and usage options, the Modular Gunners Pack is versatile and perfectly adaptable to your needs. In short: storm gear on steroids, ideal for any attack.
