Tasmanian Tiger now has its own photo equipment series. From this, we want to introduce today its highlight, the very specialized Modular 30 Camera Pack, in detail. Our friend Daniel Fallenstein, a professional journalist and photographer, tested it for us and shares his experience with us in the SPARTANAT Video. In this article, we summarize it:
As experienced photographers, we particularly benefit from the overall package. With the Modular 30 Camera Pack and the Focus ML Camera Bag, we can safely and comfortably transport extensive equipment to the shooting location. In the image, you can clearly see the difference between the olive color of the accessory bag and the infrared-secure olive gray of the backpack.
With dimensions of 58 x 28 x 19 cm, the Modular 30 Camera Pack is roughly equivalent to the classic Modular Pack 30 – HERE in our SPARTANAT Review. They have a lot in common, such as the multitude of laser-cut PALS slots on the front and side. However, the big difference is that the Camera Pack does not have a clamshell design.
What does that mean? The backpack cannot be completely opened, but instead has two "lids". One at the top and the other at the front. In the image, the top lid is fully open and folded down.
You will also find a typical Tasmanian Tiger lid compartment with partitions and D-rings on the lid. A very functional and heavily used compartment that we like to use for small items.
Here the front lid fully opened. The Modular 30 Camera Pack comes with the Camera Insert Modular 30 – HERE in our SPARTANAT Review – allowing it to be perfectly adapted to your camera equipment. The dual access via two lids makes sense for this backpack so that the photographer does not have to struggle with the long lid of the Modular Pack 30 when changing lenses.
The small organization pouch for memory cards and batteries is also included.
The front lid zipper is lockable, which should deter casual thieves.
The top lid zipper is also lockable. Because camera equipment can get quite heavy, the Modular 30 Camera Pack is equipped with two sturdy carrying handles. The carrying system is the same as that of the classic Modular Pack 30.
The hip belt is detachable and two side pockets are available. Combined with the compression straps, tripods can be transported very well here.
At the bottom, you will find a small zipper. Behind this, the included rain cover is hidden. Thanks to a small hook, it is secured against loss.
A very handy accessory with the Modular 30 Camera Pack is the camera holster. This "quick-draw holster" is attached to the backpack strap. This allows the camera to be quickly brought into position without having to take the backpack off your back. Or it can be quickly and safely stored so that both hands are free. This camera holster is (unfortunately still) not available separately.
CONCLUSION: The Modular 30 Camera Pack from Tasmanian Tiger is a practical, well-thought-out camera backpack. If you don't take too many lenses with you, you still have plenty of space for food and additional equipment. The Camera Insert Modular 30 inside leaves almost nothing to be desired for safely transporting everything.
