The summer is over, the leaves are yellow, and it's already cold. It's the perfect time to wear jackets. From TASMANIAN TIGER (TT), there is now a lightweight softshell jacket that we want to take a closer look at: the Maine Jacket, which can actually accompany you through four seasons.
Simple and slim. That describes this wind-resistant softshell jacket very well. At a weight of under 350g, it is also quite lightweight and won't be noticeable in your backpack. The template was likely the softshell from the American Special Forces PCU package, where Level 5 is the similar jacket.
The TT Maine Jacket is closed with a two-way zipper. The fit is rather baggy, as it should be worn over other layers, but not too loose. Like PCU Level 5, this is an extremely versatile piece of clothing. Always handy in your backpack or car.
The back is also kept very simple. Towards the buttocks, the TT Maine Jacket is slightly longer. The color is listed as Olive, although it is pleasantly closer to Stone Gray RAL7013.
Even in the side view, the Maine Jacket looks good. A special design feature is the Velcro area on the upper arms.
The X marks the spot. This is where your patches should go. An interesting design choice, but not a bad one. This shape results in fewer strange wrinkles when you bend your arm.
There are no ventilation openings, but the material is breathable enough to release the steam from the inside. It is also flexible and accommodates your range of motion.
The TT Maine Jacket has two zippered pockets.
On the inside, these pockets have cable routes, and the pocket bags act as vertical slot pockets. Very cleverly designed.
Inside, you will also find a drawstring to tighten the Maine Jacket around the bottom. So the wind can't get in.
The jacket comes with a hood that is not stowable or removable. This is not a disadvantage, as the fabric is thin and the hood fits well against the body when not in use.
The hood is put on. You won't get a helmet underneath, but it fits great over it.
At the back of the head, there is a drawstring for tightening. It works well and does what it's supposed to do.
If you adjust the hood well, a small roof forms on the forehead. This provides some protection against rain or even snowfall.
Also included is a small storage bag to carry the Maine Jacket compactly.
If you need the TT Maine Jacket quickly, it is also quickly at hand. That's the way it should be.
CONCLUSION: With the Maine Jacket, Tasmanian Tiger has brought a very solid, wind-resistant softshell jacket to the market that will see you through the autumn with an additional insulating layer underneath. We are already looking forward to using the Maine Jacket intensively in summer and spring as well. Thanks to its low weight, it will likely become a constant companion in your backpack.
You can get the Maine Jacket for around 120 euros in black and olive green at all retailers carrying TASMANIAN TIGER products.
