REVIEW: Tasmanian Tiger Base Pack 52

05/04/2022By Redaktion
Who doesn't know it, 30 liters are too little, but 80 are too much. We're talking about backpack volume, and for some activities you need more than a normal daypack provides. This is where the 52-liter Base Pack from Tasmanian Tiger comes into play.

Tasmanian Tiger has made a video of this great backpack themselves, showing you all the features very well, see for yourself.

First of all, thanks to Gerrit for the pictures. The Tasmanian Tiger Base Pack measures approximately 74 x 31 x 21 cm and weighs a good 2.6 kg empty. Not lightweight, but stable. It offers around 52 liters of pack volume.

You will find PALS loops all over the outside to attach more bags or equipment.

Carrying System

The adjustable V2-Plus system serves as the carrying system, as we already know and appreciate from several other large backpacks from Tasmanian Tiger.

A chest strap is a must-have, and the well-padded hip belt distributes the load well to the hips. One small drawback is that there is no redirect for tightening, so you have to pull it backwards, which can be difficult at full load sometimes. We would have liked a system like the one on the Tasmanian Tiger Mil Ops Pack 80.

Lid

The Base Pack comes with a detachable lid.

In the main compartment of the lid, the Tasmanian Tiger camera bag fits easily.

On the inside, you'll find a zippered compartment, obviously intended for the first aid kit. Thanks to sufficiently long straps, the lid can also be adjusted in height.

Main Compartment

The Base Pack is a classic top loader with a roll closure. Thanks to the roll closure, you can expand it to up to 65 liters in extreme cases by rolling it up slightly and piling it higher.

The buckles look a bit different from normal ones. They are somewhat hybrid, half male and half female, in terms of buckle terminology.

But this has an advantage. Without thinking too much, you can simply snap the roll closure together at the top, like a roll bag, or you can use the supplied straps. With these, you can stretch the ends down sideways. This makes the Base Pack slimmer if you're not using the lid.

There is also access to the main compartment at the bottom. This part can also be separated. The perfect place for a sleeping bag.

What fits in 52 liters? A lot. A complete camera equipment, plus personal gear like jackets, rain protection, and provisions.

Once everything is packed, it looks very smart.

CONCLUSION: The Base Pack 52 is for those who carry a little more gear or whose stuff is just bulkier. Whether in the woods, on the mountain, or in the city, with its 52 liters, the Base Pack is not too large, and you can still carry a lot. Even as a mission backpack, the Base Pack is the perfect size for a multi-day trip into nature.

The Base Pack 52 from Tasmanian Tiger is available from 280 Euro in Olive, Coyote Brown, Black, and Stone Gray/RAL 7013 (IR Safe) at all retailers that carry TASMANIAN TIGER.
