REVIEW: Tardigrade Tactical MBACS Base Line XMPC Plate Carrier

12/23/2022By Redaktion

Danes don't lie. We can confirm that. And when they, like TARDIGRADE TACTICAL, say they have a new innovative plate carrier, then we are curious. The MBACS Base Line XMPC Plate Carrier is the flagship of the Danish manufacturer and we take a closer look at it.

At first glance, it's clear that TARDIGRADE TACTICAL is focusing on Lasercut. Nothing new under the sun so far, the innovation is in the details.

Let's start at the top: The shoulder straps are also Lasercut. That's good, but minimalist. For those who prefer something softer: there are good additional paddings for long-term wearers.

The length adjustment is done with Velcro, with the Velcro kept to the necessary minimum.

Lasercut straps are thin and solid, but not the most comfortable in the long run.

The advantage is that the integrated MOLLE slots also work perfectly as cable tunnels.

Exciting are the attachment points for QD attachments, which can be hooked on the right and left. The strength of the XMPC is its integration into the versatile accessory line of TARDIGRADE TACTICAL.

Velcro on the chest, our patch fits perfectly there. And many MOLLE slots for whatever you have planned.

Detail of the laminate. Everything is very precisely made.

The laminate is a thin, solid layer. Looping can be done very easily.

And on the side, we see other openings as well.

Also at the level of the cummerbund: large openings in the laminate.

The secret: TARDIGRADE TACTICAL considers the cables as well. The modern soldier always carries more and more devices with cables. And now they no longer have to run outside, causing interference, but can be guided inside, concealed. When configuring, this just needs to be taken into account, then you have a very clever solution there.

Two clips are also hidden on the chest. This is exciting because with all other manufacturers, they just hang around.

TARDIGRADE TACTICAL has them recessed so that the female clip is protected.

When you put it on, it comes out a bit. At first, it's a bit tricky, but very handy once you get used to it and know where to reach.

A placard with clips and Velcro is attached to the front. This also makes you very flexible because you can equip the placards according to the mission. For those who want to configure ready-made placards: TARDIGRADE TACTICAL sells the empty ones in a set of 3. And the chest rigs from TARDIGRADE also fit.

Raise the placard, and the cummerbund comes from the right and left.

Handle to release the laser-cut cummerbund. We can see the recessed clips nicely.

The cummerbund is also made of laser-cut laminate.

But what's interesting is that it is reinforced inside with a different material. This way, TARDIGRADE TACTICAL has created a particularly stable cummerbund.

And at the rear end, solid stretch material is incorporated so that the cummerbund fits tightly and flexibly around the chest. There's nothing as boring as when you breathe heavily after running and the cummerbund doesn't move. That won't happen to the wearer here.

View of the unfolded side cummerbund. The pockets are ideally placed inside, providing a particularly good fit for gear that is directly on the person.

Side view attached: There are also MOLLE slots on the outside. You have the joy of choosing how you want to load it. By the way, the cummerbund is also available for purchase separately in case someone wants to improve a different model of plate carrier.

Here is the inserted cummerbund, the stretch element disappears into the rear plate pocket and is fixed with Velcro.

Here are the Velcro elements. For those who don't want to be too frustrated during assembly: a sheet of paper as a separator during insertion helps greatly to maintain inner peace.

The XMPC from above, with the attached eyelets for the shoulder straps.

The rest is all MOLLE, MOLLE, MOLLE, and completely smooth. So plenty of opportunities to configure the back exactly how you need it.

The XMPC accommodates both soft armor and hard plates.

Because it's what's on the inside that counts, we also open the hood.

The interior in its simple beauty.

This is the day with the details from TARDIGRADE TACTICAL, it is attached to the flap. With the Danish flag.

Inside is the durable Cordura, with the option to insert pads.

And last but not least: the back view to finish.

CONCLUSION: A "no bullshit" carrier from TARDIGRADE TACTICAL. Solid construction with innovative elements. The reinforced cummerbund is great. Also ideal is the idea of turning the plate carrier into a cable tunnel. The XMPC is part of the MBACS line from TARDIGRADE. This means there is also plenty of accessories for users who want a solid, practical plate carrier model.

You can get the Tardigrade Tactical MBACS Base Line XMPC Plate Carrier directly from the manufacturer for 335 euros. It is available in Multicam, Ranger Green, Black, and Wolf Grey.
