Without food, there's no fight. But it also has to be tasty, because just "eating" will also make you lose the joy of life, and we don't want that. So, we are always on the lookout for tasty food options. That's how we came across Tactical Foodpack from Estonia, who have taken the Special Forces motto: "Don't mess with the food" to heart.
We were a bit surprised by the packaging of the meals, but it actually makes sense. This painter's bucket is watertight, easy to stack, and portable. This 21-meal package also comes in black, no worries.
The content consists of 21 bags of Tactical Foodpacks, enough food for a week with three meals a day.
In the bucket are eight different freeze-dried dishes, with two to three pieces each. So, variety is guaranteed.
The packets are about 23 x 18 x 3 cm in size, and fit very well in a backpack or range bag. Hunger is always lurking, everywhere.
Preparation is easy: tear open the bag, add water, preferably boiling, stir, and wait about eight minutes. Your meal is ready. If you use cold water, the waiting time doubles. In addition to water purification tablets and a plastic spork, the additional pack also includes matches and a special fuel paste. Of course, we want to try those out.
Off to the woods and we're craving spaghetti. The packaging of the Tactical Foodpacks is very well designed, as they stand on their own and have a large opening. Eating from them is really convenient and you don't need extra plates.
The noodles are mixed and the "fireplace" is prepared. We've already ignited the fuel paste, but it burns almost colorless. In the main picture, you can see it shimmering blue. Now simply hold the open bag over the flame until everything has warmed up. That takes about 6-10 minutes. When steam comes out, remove the meal from the fire, seal the bag, and let it sit for a few more minutes.
This is what the finished spaghetti looks like. We admit: a bit short, but the broken noodles don't detract from the taste. Almost as good as homemade.
It was delicious. The advantage of the Tactical Foodpack packaging is that you can reseal it, similar to a freezer bag. This is really practical, as you immediately have a waterproof and odor-proof trash bag on hand. "Leave no trace," as we like to say.
We have, of course, also consumed the desserts. This is what the dehydrated rice pudding with berries looks like. The smell upon opening is wonderful, like tasty raspberries.
The sweet porridge is mixed and ready to eat. We admit, we are not the best food photographers, but we have other strengths. The taste is great and has convinced us.
CONCLUSION: We have consumed several different outdoor ready meals, and in terms of taste, Tactical Foodpack is right up there. We tried all the dishes and they all tasted great, although they are a bit on the intensively seasoned side. The smell and consistency of the food were always excellent. What particularly impressed us was the design of the packaging, which stands on its own, has a large opening, and can also be used as a waterproof trash bag. A lot of thought has gone into this.
Available directly from Tactical Foodpack. Individual meals cost from 6.90 euros, and the weekly ration costs 140.00 euros. Also available at XXL Sports, ASMC, and various gear shops.
