Shapeware means underwear that is supposed to shape the man's body. At least externally. We took a look at and tried on the shirt from the German label Strammer Max for you.
Before and after. First a casual shirt from Löffler (left) on the man, then on the right the Strammer Max. There's already a difference. Just by changing the top from a loose fit to skin-tight. It looks completely different, and it feels completely different too. Shapeware has a cosmetic aim, namely to visually shape the body. The Strammer Max does this quite well. Though, the long-sleeved shirt from Löffler is an excellent piece of workout clothing (but that's a different topic.)
The Strammer Max comes in a very nice box, which is appealing and probably also meant to express value. Inside is a vest made of "breathable high-tech fabric," as it claims. That sounds nice and is probably true, Under Armour would also describe their compression shirts like this (HERE is our comparison review).
But this one is intended for everyday wear and for sports. Strammer Max is thicker and fluffier than its sporty counterparts. It is very comfortable to wear and really emphasizes the male forms well. Although it should be noted that you shouldn't expect miracles. A belly is a belly is a belly. It won't disappear in a compression shirt. Sport and healthy eating help with that. Also, not everyone likes the tight fit and the feeling of compression, even if it makes you feel a few percent more masculine.
CONCLUSION: Very good shapewear, at a somewhat proud price. But you get a top-notch product that is great to wear and emphasizes the male contours. Almost too nice for sports actually.
You can get Strammer Max HERE in black and white and with different collar styles and as a tank top for €79.95.
