REVIEW: S&S Precision Manta Strobe

04/11/2012By Redaktion

When looking at the more recent DEVGRU pictures, you always notice a little thing on the helmet: the Manta Strobe from S&S Precision . Replicas were nowhere to be found until recently. So we ordered one of these "things" in America from Ralley Point Tactical. The only downside: No IR because it's "export restricted". So we got the green/white version. But at least it's Gen II. Not bad! So the little blinky thing arrived along with three V-Lites:

& nbsp;

Unpacked it right away and took a look. The first thing that caught my eye is the weight. The thing weighs almost nothing: 61g with batteries. The "funnel" is operated with the good old CR123A battery. But before I could turn it on, I had to unscrew the plastic cap with the built-in push button. Said and done! Unfortunately, the whole thing (end cap) fell apart right away. Consists of five parts which are not a big problem to "assemble" again in the living room. But in the field... annoying!!

When I finally turned on the strobe - visible above: the side buttons - I was very satisfied with the "light output". Bright and white when turned on, normally (militarily) this would be the IR mode. If you press the two buttons on the left and right for about five seconds, the strobe vibrates briefly to indicate that it has switched to the other (green) light mode. The vibration is a good idea because it can be felt well even with gloves.

The velcro side of life. With which you can attach the Manta to the appropriate counterpart, on the helmet.

CONCLUSION: Basically, the Manta Strobe is a very good invention and is a reasonable alternative to ). The price of 249 USD is of course quite steep for the original.

At Ralley Point Tactical you can get the ITAR-export legal Manta Strobe for 249 dollars.

Addition 2018 - There are now various versions of the Manta:

 Front

Back

Side

Angle
