REVIEW: SPOSN Smersh

03/31/2012By Redaktion

Hello! Now that the days are getting longer and the weather is getting better, we at SPARTANAT want to take a look towards the East. Because even though most gear innovations come from the USA, our Russian friends also have some very good carrying systems.

The Smersh by the Russian manufacturer SPOSN is a classic Load Bearing Harness (LBH). It has a padded H-shoulder strap with MOLLE-like loops. The hip belt is connected to the shoulder strap via simple adjustable straps. We only loosely attached the butt pack so that you have quick access without having to remove the entire rig.

What sets the Smersh apart from most other LBHs is the separate padded belt that is worn under the actual belt. It is cut relatively wide at the back, providing more storage options, better weight distribution, and spine support.

The padded belt does not run the full length, allowing the wearer to adjust the rig to their individual size. When it comes to the most important accessory of the Smersh, the ammunition pouches, it is clear that they can be mounted at two different heights. The straps to the shoulder pads can also be attached differently depending on the position of the pouches.

The standard version of the Smersh comes with pouches for AK magazines. On each side, you can transport 2x2 magazines for both 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm. The pouches have removable dividers to prevent any rattling.

On the sides of the magazine pouch, there are small bags for hand grenades on each side. Additionally, there are loops for signal lights, glow sticks, or pens. Besides the AK magazine pouches, there are versions available for RPK and PKM.

In use, the Smersh is mainly seen with troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), but also paratroopers (VDV) and other units have been spotted using it.

You can purchase the SPOSN Smersh directly in Russia, for example at Soviet Propaganda.
