REVIEW: SPB Covert Belt 2.0

08/28/2013By Redaktion

If you are out in public with a weapon, it can be quite useful if the equipment is not visible at first glance. For this purpose, the Poles from SAGear have developed the SPB Covert Belt from the US Air Marshall Rig. We at SPARTANAT have taken a look at the 2.0 version of this hip belt.

The Covert Belt is made entirely of stretch material and is simply fastened together at the front. It lies close to the body, assuming the right size, without constricting. If you wear a loose jacket over it, there are no noticeable bumps or unevenness, so you are really carrying concealed.

On the left side of the 10cm wide belt, there are four holders for pistol magazines. In version 2.0, these are slanted with a negative angle (meaning facing backward). It looks strange, but the magazines can be quickly and effortlessly drawn without easily falling out. Unfortunately, we cannot say if there is a significant difference with the other version (with a forward tilt).

On the right side, the stretch holster sits prominently. Although this holster keeps the weapon close to the body, the concept did not convince us. The weapon is secure, but holstering and reholstering must be done with both hands, and light/laser modules cannot be used. It is also worth noting that the material around the trigger guard is stretched so tightly that accidentally pulling the trigger is extremely unlikely (it requires a lot of force). On the back of the SPB Covert Belt 2.0, there are two universal pockets that can also hold AR-15 magazines, as well as a straight holder that can be used for a knife or small defense stick.

At the front, in front of the holster, there are two additional storage compartments, one narrow and one in the same width as the back one. In our 2.0 version, these (as well as the two rear ones) compartments have a Velcro closure. However, if you put larger items—such as the depicted AR magazines—in these pockets, it may be more obstructive, so for these purposes, you should probably opt for the Covert Belt (version 1.0).

CONCLUSION: All in all, the SPB Covert Belt from SAGear is a fine thing if you want to carry multiple magazines and accessories discreetly and comfortably or conceal a weapon. Carrying and drawing works great, but reholstering can be a problem. It did not convince us as a full-fledged holster, so we would recommend other solutions for that.

You can purchase the belt directly from SAG in the colors black and tan for PLN 96 each (currently around 23 euros). The "Version 1" is also available directly there (for PLN 76). In Germany, the SPB is available at CAMOSTORE for 24.95 euros (excluding shipping). Customization for women is available upon request!
