Rubber bands are a practical thing - they hold everything. And you can see them on the gear of US special forces, who like to use them. Originally, they come from parachuting and are used to secure the lines when packing. No wonder they were also very popular with MilSim players.

This set of rubber bands is available from SATC. However, these are not the original rubber bands, but ones that look like they were cut.

CONCLUSION: Practical, but not original.
