REVIEW: Sightmark XT-3 Tactical Magnifier

During our big magnifier comparison test, we have been asked several times about certain magnifiers that were not tested. This was partly due to the fact that some devices had just come onto the market or were simply impossible to obtain. However, we have since received more devices and are striving to get even more to make the comparison test as comprehensive as possible.

Today we have another device, provided by Sightmark: The flagship XT-3 Tactical.

Compared to other Sightmark magnifiers (links to the reviews at the end), the XT-3 is very compact. With dimensions of only 102mm x 49mm x 49mm, it is on par with Aimpoint, EOTech, Vortex, and Burris.

The weight is also impressive: Without mounting, the XT-3 weighs only 181 grams, making it the lightest among the devices tested so far (Vortex is second with one gram more). The mounting adds another 123 grams, bringing the total weight to 305 grams.

The construction is much higher quality than the models previously presented by Sightmark. Starting with the magnifier itself: the adjustment turrets feel more precise, the diopter adjustment is much smoother, and the housing appears very robust. The objective tube remains 30mm up to the actual housing, allowing for a variety of 30mm ring mounts. Additionally, this design allows the magnifier to be moved forward and backward without moving the mounting.

The mounting also does not disappoint this time. The clamp of the quick-release lever is better painted, slightly shorter than the standard models, and additionally has a safety feature against accidental opening. The pressure point of the quick-release lever can be adjusted on the opposite side with a screw.

The flip-to-sight function is implemented using a ball-lock mechanism. It works reliably and quickly, with enough resistance to prevent accidental pivoting (this can be seen in the video during the "shake test"). The mounting height is approximately 38mm, making the magnifier perfect for absolute co-witness sights.

The housing is made of 6061-T6 aluminum, and the middle part is additionally protected with a rubber coating (non-removable). In addition to dust protection, the XT-3 is also IP67 waterproof: One meter depth for one hour of watertightness is guaranteed. The operating temperature range is stated to be -30 degrees Celsius to +71 degrees Celsius.

Optically, the XT-3 is on par with the standard models: it is clear and relatively edge-sharp with occasional blurriness in the lower right area. Unfortunately, the objective lens is very small: measuring only 23mm, which makes viewing slightly more difficult and requires precise head positioning.

The magnification, like most devices, is three times, with a field of view of 10.5 meters at 100 meters. An eye relief of 7cm is stated, which we cannot confirm. It is more like two to three centimeters.

As accessories, there is an adjustment key and the manual.

CONCLUSION: The Sightmark XT-3 gives a robust and good impression. We particularly like the mounting, but optically it is a bit lacking in terms of brightness and with a small lens. However, as it is an incredibly compact and sturdy device, it is worth comparing directly with devices in the same price category.
