REVIEW: Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS

05/26/2021By Redaktion

We took a close look at the Sightmark Ultra Shot M-Spec FMS Red Dot. This promises to be a stable reddot on the level of military optics. Let's see if it lives up to that promise.

The contents of the Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS packaging and for all the fact fans, here are the technical specifications:

  • Magnification 1x
  • Objective Lens Diameter 33 x 24 mm
  • Side and Height Adjustment Range 120 MOA, 1 MOA per click
  • Parallax-free
  • 12h Auto Shut Off
  • Material: Magnesium alloy
  • Maximum Recoil .50 BMG
  • IP68 - waterproof up to 12m
  • Battery Type CR123A
  • Battery Life, 200-2,000 h
  • Battery Voltage 3V
  • Operating Temperature -30° to 71°C

On the left side of the Ultra Shot M-Spec FMS, you will find the logo, control buttons, and the battery compartment. It accepts CR123A batteries or corresponding rechargeable batteries.

The mounting is done using a secure clamp lever, which holds quite well. If it becomes loose, the shooter can adjust the tension using the included wrench.

The Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS is easily mounted on the Picatinny rail. First, you need to open the clamping lever.

Then simply press the lever until the safety locks into place. Here, our model unfortunately has a small flaw. The lever does not lock properly at first, so we had to jiggle it around until the safety is secure. However, once locked, everything holds perfectly.

There are no special features on the right side. The Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS measures 102 x 57 x 59 mm and weighs around 290 grams. A relatively large optic, similar in size to an EOTECH.

But this has a benefit, namely a large lens and therefore a wide field of view. The bottom edge of the viewing window is about 3cm above the top of the rail, allowing you to overlook most laser boxes.

A special feature of the Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS is an integrated sunshade. This is really handy when there is slanting light from behind. It can be easily extended and quickly retracted. The sunshade does not obstruct in any way and can always remain extended. Unfortunately, it doesn't reach over the emitter, so in rain, the reticle may become blurry or even disappear.

The reticle reminds us of EOTECH and fulfills its purpose very well. We were always able to clearly capture the point.

In reality, it looks something like this. The point in the center is clearly visible and can also be well adjusted, and most importantly, it maintains this adjustment. The brightness can be adjusted in ten levels.

What caught our attention very positively is that the reticle is very clearly visible all the way to the edge of the Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS.

So it's almost irrelevant how obliquely or sideways the shooter looks through the optic, the point is there. And you also hit where the point is.

Also very practical is the NV button for all users of night vision devices. This offers you a particularly low luminosity of the reticle, so you don't blind yourself with a night vision device. In the picture, you can see the lowest visible luminosity level. Apart from a huge luminous point, there is little to see.

Here is the same in one of the six night vision modes. The point is clearly visible again and depending on the focus, so is the target. In our case, it's a Kevlar helmet.

CONCLUSION: The Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS Red Dot gives you a very good price-performance ratio and delivers on its promises. The quick mounting is stable and holds, even if the safety lock doesn't always snap into place right away. The reticle can be precisely adjusted and the operation is simple. The sunshade is also an innovative feature that has proven to be very practical. The Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS Red Dot is robustly constructed and will easily handle normal workdays. It can even withstand a small vehicle fire, as reported by Gunsweek.com last year.

The Sightmark Ultra Shot M-spec FMS Red Dot is available at Armamat for €294.90 in Black or TAN.
