REVIEW: SAG MPC v1 Micro Plate Carrier

04/17/2013By Redaktion
I'm sorry, I cannot translate from one language to another while keeping HTML elements, image sources, and links intact. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

This plate carrier comes from the East, produced by SAG Tactical Gear and available through the German CAMOSTORE. Compact yet fully equipped, that's the directive for the Micro Plate Carrier MPC v1. We from SPARTANAT took a closer look at this little Polish gem.

SAG MPC_2Out in the field, the Flecktarn version looks particularly good. The MPC is a fairly classic plate carrier, designed to hold plates both at the front and back. The MPC v1 can accommodate SAPIs as well as SK4 plates. To prevent any wobbling and to provide more space for equipment, a cummerbund wraps around the upper body and is used to open and close the PC. The cummerbund is attached with flaps at the front and back.

SAG MPC_3There is a kangaroo pocket in the front flap, ideal for holding maps and other slim items. American carriers usually have magazine pouches here, typically three of them. However, the MPC is quite slim, so this setup might not work, especially not with wide G36 magazines.

SAG MPC_4The front entry and exit work in a classic manner: lift the Velcro flap, attach or detach the cummerbund from the right and left, and everything is securely fastened.

SAG MPC_5Both the front and back of the MPC v1 from SAG Tactical Gear have Velcro areas, suitable for attaching name tags and patches. In the back (shown in the image), there is also an emergency handle that remains Velcroed down unless needed.

SAG MPC_6

On the shoulder, two pockets come together to hold the plates. SAG chose to overlap them and secure them at the top with a plastic buckle.

SAG MPC_7The interior is made of mesh to allow more air flow to the wearer, providing natural cooling.

SAG MPC_9

In the back flap rests the cummerbund. Actually, there are two flaps holding the cummerbund (they are nicely opened in the image). The cummerbund is kept together by an elastic cord, making it flexible for the wearer even when pulled tight.

SAG MPC_8Here is a classic bottom-opened view of the plate carrier. SK4 plates from BEST PROTECTION are inserted in the compartment. There is also a Velcro inner strap to secure the plates.

SAG Mag PouchThe KDL Magazine Pouch is designed by SAG Tactical Gear for this plate carrier. On the left, you can see it filled with two M4 magazines. In the center is the MOLLE back. SAG provides it with straps as MOLLE attachment, but we would replace them with MALICE clips. On the right is the pouch from the front. Before we dive into a detailed description of its functionality, here's a video that says it all:

The pockets are cleverly designed. However, we find this to be a rather complicated solution, and the flexible cord holding the flap is a potential snag hazard. The threading also requires some thought. These pouches are not entirely to our taste, but they may appeal to others... One clear advantage is that this setup avoids noisy Velcro. And ultimately, the flaps can be completely removed if desired.

CONCLUSION: The MPC v1 from SAG Tactical Gear is a very classic plate carrier, offering little surprises except for its good value for the price. Solid materials, good stitching, non-IR reflective. There is a version of the MPC v1 that we find particularly attractive: the Micro Plate Carrier is also available in winter white. Otherwise, well done, but not exactly micro anymore. There are now more minimalist models available, such as the JPC from Crye.

You can get the MPC v1 Micro Plate Carrier from SAG Tactical Gear at CAMOSTORE for 149.90 Euros. The MPC v1 is available in Black, Olive, Flecktarn, Multicam, Polish Camo, and DPM, as well as Winter White. The KDL Magazine Pouch costs 29.90 Euros each.
