Clean until the cannon shines! Today, in the second part of our Real Avid series, we present a range of tools and cleaning utensils that make life with a weapon easier. For those who haven't seen the first part yet, here is the link.
Today we have:
First, you need a mat. In addition to the Smart Mat for AR15 introduced in the first review - there is also a smaller version available for pistols - Real Avid has a ready-to-use solution for handguns: The Range Station.
The red box reveals storage surfaces with removable dividers and the cleaning mat as a base.
The mat is attached to the box, so when positioning the mat, the box follows along. Small parts, cleaning tools, and magazines can now be stored in the box.
The back of the mat has a textured surface, providing perfect grip on smooth surfaces.
The first cleaning tool to use is the AR15 Scraper (there is also an AR10 version). This useful little tool is also built into the AR15 Tool and is used for the dedicated cleaning of the locking group or Bolt Carrier Group (BCG).
The housing is rotating, meaning the part of the tool with many hooks and eyes can be safely stored in the housing while the part with the 1/4" bit key remains exposed.
In addition to the key, this side is also used to clear the bolt carrier. This is the first tool that reaches all the way down and effectively removes baked-on powder residue due to its shape.
Not a gram too much: The length is adjusted so that the scraper reaches all the way to the end of the carrier.
The other side of the tool has a hook at the end, which is used for both cleaning and removing the safety pin.
The different sized notches are intended for the respective parts and areas of all the internal components of the BCG. Here, both the CAM pin ...
... and the Firing Pin can be freed from crusts.
The remaining prongs and recesses are intended for thorough bolt cleaning. Whether crown ...
... body and tip, the scraper can reach everywhere. The AR15 Scraper is the ideal companion and due to its size and weight, it is not too bulky to be carried in a small emergency cleaning kit in combat situations.
A very similar tool is the Carbon Boss. This triangular tool offers a few more things in addition to the tools of the AR15 Scraper.
The bolt carrier is cleaned with this tool.
