Primitive but genius. A slogan that probably applies to many Russian military constructions. This also applies to the 1P86. In Central Europe, Russian products are often unpopular and have a poor image. This is mostly due to the fact that Russian designers place very little value on design, and non-functional areas are often only roughly manufactured. However, moving parts and functional surfaces usually have better surface finishes than comparable European products. The same applies to the PSU 1x/4x.
The optic has a special feature: it can quickly switch between one and four times magnification with the help of a lever. This not only reminds us of the Elcan Specter DR, but is surely inspired by it. The image above from Russianoptics shows a direct comparison between the two optics. The PSU is similar, but not a direct replica.
The PSU itself is produced by NPZ (Novosibirsk Instrument Plant), founded in 1905 by Carl Zeiss. Since World War I, NPZ has been producing optics for the Russian military.
