Good pants? Always in demand. Those who wanted to combine lifestyle and tacti-cool appearance could and can rely on TAD Gear with confidence. Now comes Prometheus Design Werx (PDW) and brings an alternative at the same level. No wonder, because PDW is a collaboration between Patrick Ma (the former founder of Triple Aught Design) and Chris Whitney. PDW already has patches and knives, all good. And with the Odyssey Cargo Pant, they present their first pants. We tested them for you with the help of TACWRK.
Here is the pair of pants from PDW from all angles. So far, so classic: tactical pants with thigh pockets and a casual cut. First verdict: PDW has taken a lot from TAD, the pants are a further development of TAD's Amphibian. The main difference lies in style elements: the flaps on the pockets, the bottom of the pants, the pockets - everything is kept angular in terms of cut.
Otherwise, little new under the sun. Solid hand pockets, with the super practical slit pockets for your phone or keys in front of them. The D-rings have become D-triangles.
On the back, the trend continues: the back pockets are covered with angular flaps (design element). Here you can also see the double-layered bottom of the pants. Wide loops for a sturdy belt are just waiting to accommodate a proper riggers belt.
For the leg pockets, the flap at the top is a wider piece open, allowing you to comfortably insert a long flashlight or tool.
Innovation in the articulated thigh pocket: an elastic band that securely holds water bottles and prevents them from jostling around. A very practical idea, taken from the Crye G3 Pant. The 0.5 liter water or soda bottle fits perfectly. There are also knee pockets from below, so you can integrate padding. Nice feature, we suspect it is rarely used.
A new brand needs a new logo: from Prometheus Design Werx, we will surely hear a lot more, so remember the logo. HERE at ITS TACTICAL there is a very interesting story about PDW and its founders.
Quite innovative is a hidden inner pocket in the pants, where you can put things that need to be carried discreetly. Money, a notebook, your secret files. Sunglasses, like the one in the picture, are not very suitable for this.
The PDW Odyssey during the wear test. The pants almost snuggled up. The material is an extremely lightweight microfiber that feels very comfortable on the skin. At first, it feels very unusual, but you instantly love the pants. The wearer hardly notices that they are wearing pants. Of course, one should always be wearing pants when going out...
VERDICT: The Prometheus Design Werx Odyssey Pants is a practical, very tacti-cool pair of pants. Modern cut meets classic elements here. Those who liked TAD will also like PDW. A casual pant for urban and rural use. And PDW also works on the scarcity pattern: there never seems to be enough stuff to buy. Therefore, only available on demand...
You can get the Prometheus Design Werx Odyssey Pants in Germany at TACWRK. Availability upon request: [email protected]. The Odyssey costs 134.90 Euros.
