REVIEW: Platatac Bullock Echo MkII Pack

06/10/2013By Redaktion

A kangaroo has a pouch in the front, but not all Australians have it. The pouch here is a fine piece from Platatac and fits on the back. A backpack would be too much, a hydration pack too little? What should one take? The answer is simple: this Bullock Echo Mk II Pack. We took a look at this small but fine Modular Assault Pack for you:

bullock4At first glance, the Bullock Echo Mk II resembles a Yotee, but only at first glance. Upon closer inspection, one can see the significantly smaller size. The backpack has a volume of around ten liters and a weight of just under 750g empty. This low weight is achieved mainly by using 500 denier Cordura. It can be worn as a backpack with the shoulder straps or attached to armor via the MOLLE loops on the back. Now to the individual pockets.

bullock1Main body

The dimensions are ~35 x 20 x 10 cm. The back is not made of Cordura but of a high-tech laminated plastic that is extremely tear-resistant and waterproof. So if the hydration bladder were to burst, you wouldn't have a wet back. There are 2 D-rings on each side, a small carrying handle on the top, and 2 exits for the drinking tube or antennas on the sides. There are 4 rows of MOLLE webbing on the outside, each with 6 columns, and a Velcro area above. The interior is divided by a partition and equipped with a Velcro strap for securing hydration bladders. Furthermore, the main compartment of the Bullock Echo Mk II has a removable mesh pocket for small items.

bullock2Side pockets

There is a side pocket on the left and right, each with a two-way zipper that can easily fit 0.5L cans. At the top, these pockets are not sewn to the main body, so knives, signaling devices (Pop Flares), or similar items can be stored here. The exterior of the pockets is also equipped with 3 rows of MOLLE webbing, each with 2 columns.

bullock3Lid and straps

The lid is attached to the body by a net, which forms the helmet mesh compartment, and 6 tie-down straps. There is a front pocket with a two-way zipper. Above that are 3 rows of MOLLE webbing, 2 of which are covered with Velcro, providing a patch area. The shoulder straps, like the rest, are very well made and very comfortable to wear.

Conclusion: Perfect backpack for short missions. Small, light, yet everything fits in. Smaller than American counterparts, but lighter, extremely well made. This kangaroo pouch for the back is a fantastic daypack for operations.

Available directly from Platatac in Australia only in Multicam for $169 excluding shipping
