It's hot! At least it has been for the past few weeks. The perfect time to test a dedicated summer pants: the Kalahari Pants and Kalahari Short from Pentagon. We'll tell you how we survived the great heat with these pants.
In short, quite well. The pants are made of a thin, quick-drying ripstop nylon fabric. The fit of the pants is sporty and it's more of a tactical hiking pant than a pure combat pant. Below we show you the pictures of the pant and short mixed, as they are the same, except for the length and color of course (we had Coyote and Gray).
Here are the front and back views. Nothing particularly striking, which is good. The pants are designed in a very simple way. Two pant pockets, two thigh pockets, and two back pockets. The bottom of the pants is reinforced.
The two thigh pockets are closed with Velcro. The pockets are significantly smaller than those on classic BDUs, but still large enough to store gloves and similar items.
The seam width at the lower end of the pant pockets is narrower, which helps to prevent wear from a knife clip. The waistband is elastic. The pants are closed with a snap button and an internal button.
The back pockets are very classic. Like the thigh pockets, they are also close-fitting and therefore small.
The wearing comfort is good. Due to the thin material, there is always a pleasant airflow during movement, which has a slightly cooling effect. If the pants do get wet, they dry very quickly, even faster in the temperatures over 35°C of the past weeks. The pant size number corresponds to half of the hip circumference in cm. The tested pants were size 42, our tester usually wears a size 33 in jeans, and they fit perfectly.
CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a comfortable summer hiking pant or a pant for light physical activities, this is the right choice. It is also naturally suitable for a tactical everyday life in the urban jungle. Pentagon delivers a premium summer pants from their tactical Sportsline collection.
Available at retailers carrying Pentagon, for €44.95 in the long version, €34.95 for the shorts. Available in Coyote, Khaki, and Gray.
