Ops-Core celebrates international success with its FAST Helmet. But the rest of the company's accessories are also extremely popular. The VAS Shroud is a simple and very good mounting for a night vision device arm on the helmet. We took a look at it for you.
Front side: Note the logo at the top. The bore corresponds to the 3-hole bore on the MICH helmet as specified by WARCOM/SOCOM. The special feature of the Shroud is that it standardly accommodates a "normal" GI Rhino arm.
Back side: The structure is hollowed out at the back to achieve additional weight savings. The triangle is actually made of aluminum cast, not plastic.
CONCLUSION: Ops-Core had a good idea: it wanted to make the NVG Mount cheaper. While all mounts used by Special Operation Forces explode in price (because of titanium, allegedly sophisticated technology, and other jokes), Ops-Core opts for minimalism. A triangle that accommodates the classic Norotos Rhino arm, but whose adapter plates also fit other mounts. Brilliant idea, great implementation…
You can find the Chinese clone of the VAS Shroud on Ebay for around 20 dollars. The original VAS Shroud is available from Ops-Core for 84 dollars.
The package insert with the installation instructions. The screws show that it is not a genuine VAS Shroud from Ops-Core, but a cheaper Chinese replica.
