You lucky Austria, you lucky Austria. Weapon lights are something practical and luckily, you can also own something like this in Austria as a civilian. We took a closer look at a model from Olight, the BALDR Pro Laser-Light Module for pistols. By the way, today the exclusive Olightstore Austria is opening, so even more luck.
This is how the light comes in this elegant packaging when you buy it. Unfortunately, for our German friends, this item is illegal, unless you are an authority.
Inside you will find the weapon light with batteries, an instruction manual, an Allen wrench, and additional screws.
Also included is an adapter for Picatinny rails, for all pistols with this standard. The crossbar for Glock is factory-installed.
Marked with GL, this is. Mounting on the weapon is simple, just place it on and tighten the clamp lever.
Here is an example on a Glock 17 Gen4. The same procedure applies to other pistols, of course.
This is how the Olight BALDR Pro light looks on the weapon. With its dimensions of 8.4 x 3.7 x 4.5 cm, it is a larger pistol light, but it is also very bright with up to 1,350 lumens and 16,900 candela. You can illuminate up to 260m with it.
However, after 2 minutes at this power, the maximum brightness drops to 500 lumens, but you can use it for up to two hours without the laser. With the laser, the runtime decreases from 125 min to 115 min. Weighing close to 130g with batteries, BALDR is comfortable to handle.
At the bottom, you will find the selector switch and the laser adjustment screws. There are three different modes available. Only laser, only light, or both. If you press both buttons simultaneously, you activate the strobe mode.
About the laser, it is a Class 3R laser – HERE is our laser class guide – so do not look directly into the beam or intentionally shine it into people's eyes.
The battery cover also houses the two tactile switches. With a lever, the battery compartment is securely closed and is also IPx4 water-resistant.
BALDR Pro is powered by two CR123A batteries. These are included in the package, so you can start using it right away.
If you want to take your pistol with BALDR Pro to the shooting range, you will need a suitable holster. You can get one custom-made at Black Trident. Now that we have the holster, let's head to the range.
First, the laser needs to be adjusted. There are different approaches to how to adjust it. We set it at the 10m mark. Fortunately, it can be readjusted quickly and precisely with the adjustment screws if you want a different distance.
Highlighting the target at 10m in the dark shooting tunnel. The target can be clearly identified, as it should be. The mode is set to "light only." In the cover image, you can see only the green laser in action.
