REVIEW: OBERLAND ARMS SHARP LPVO 1-8X24I

11/03/2022By Redaktion
In our First Look, we introduced you to the OBERLAND ARMS SHARP LPVO 1-8×24 shortly after unpacking. After changing hands, we first wanted to see the magnification for ourselves. Here is a comparison.

Don't worry, we're not aiming wildly out the window in an inhabited area, the scope is not mounted yet and is being held in hand. The landscape shows 1x magnification.

Here with 3x zoom. Distance is about 330 meters. When zoomed in, the reticle size remains the same.

At 8x zoom, the scope can demonstrate its full strength. With a 24mm diameter, this LPVO is more suitable for daytime use. The image is clear and sharp to the edge. Blurriness can be adjusted with the diopter adjustment.

Now let's move on to the weapon. Our OA-15 SL10 may be a bit short for such a scope, but with the Blast Deflector, it can still look good, we think. When mounting, pay attention to the Newton meter specifications to avoid damaging the optics and ensure greater repeatability. The scope should be mounted as far forward as possible without touching the handguard.

First, we visited a range with up to 300 meters to zero in the scope. So far, no problems. And most importantly, this way you learn your holdovers, which is essential.

Since we attend various 2 Gun Action Challenge Matches, we were curious how it performs with barricades and quick target transitions. So, we approached the barricade to test the feel of it.

The mounting sits at a regular height, allowing for good and quick aiming at simple magnification. For those wondering about the dust cover, it's easily explained.

One huge plus, it's transparent and protects the optic from dirt, even though it doesn't completely seal it from dust. Rain and mud are kept out, yet you can still aim quickly and easily and see through it for close-range targets.

If you prefer a sharper view, simply remove the caps. Also, the thick rubber bands are comfortable and provide stable support.

If the lens is still really smudged, Oberland Arms provides a nice glasses cleaning cloth with its own pocket, which can easily be attached anywhere.

Back to shooting, we immediately test a horizontal slot. Whether at magnification or simple zoom, fortunately there are also no problems with eye relief and acquiring the target.

Here is the reticle again with the distinctive Horseshoe. The circular reticle makes quick target acquisition very pleasant. However, the illumination is not quite sufficient to make the reticle glow red on a sunny midday. Only when the sun is somewhat covered or lower, you start to see more red. However, it should be noted that an LPVO is not a red dot sight.

CONCLUSION: With the OA SHARP LPVO 1-8x24i, Oberland Arms succeeds in entering the world of optics and the German company delivers a solid piece for (their) rifles. Advertised for mid- and long-range distances, it also performs well in close range and excels at longer distances. The eye relief is good and sufficient, even with more challenging shooting positions, you can still hit the target. The 8x magnification also provides a clear advantage over other optics when you need to reach out further.

The OA SHARP LPVO 1-8×24 is available directly from the manufacturer for 1,150 euros. The appropriate mounting costs 250 euros.
