REVIEW: Oberland Arms Blast Deflector

No, these are not the new Coke cans that OBERLAND ARMS gives as merch to its best customers. What looks like a little can is a very practical item, especially for shooters who want to protect their neighbors: the OBERLAND ARMS Blast Deflector is a linear compensator. This means all the dirt goes out in front. And only in the front ...

OBERLAND ARMS has recently focused on what goes in front of its weapons. On the left the new silencer OA KDA II, available in steel and titanium. On the right the OA Blast Deflector, one mounted on the gun and one standing beside it. No, they are not dressed up because they are cold. The heat-resistant cover ensures that you don't burn yourself after intense shooting if you accidentally touch the part. Corresponding silencer covers are available, for example at md-textil.

From OBERLAND ARMS is only real if it says OBERLAND ARMS on it: that's how it is here. And these are the specifications that the manufacturer himself provides for his "Master Blaster":

  • Quenched steel // Inner parts QPQ coated // Outer tube Cerakote coating
  • Weight approx. 300g // Length 80mm (only extends the gun by 30mm)
  • Available colors: Battleship Grey, Military OD Green, Flat Dark Earth, Burnt Bronze
  • Made in Germany by Oberland Arms

And they know what we are like. Here is the instruction manual for screwing on and off. As we like to say: "idiot-proof".

This is where the OA Blast Deflector lives. If you have no neighbors, you can shoot very well with this flash hider. However, the thread offers the possibility to attach the linear compensator immediately. By the way, the corresponding muzzle flash suppressor is available with thread M14x1, M15x1, and ½ 28.

This is the counterpart to it. The internal thread shows that the muzzle flash suppressor completely disappears in the OA Blast Deflector. With the Blast Deflector attached, the gun is only three centimeters longer.

And otherwise, it just goes straight through. There are no chambers or anything. The Blast Deflector is not a silencer and can therefore be purchased without restrictions. But of course, it looks like a little silencer.

And this is how the thing is screwed on. If you are unsure how to do this: the instruction manual "to-open" is pictured above.

The new OA Blast Deflector directs the muzzle blast and pressure completely forward, thus reducing recoil. This significantly increases shooting comfort, also for neighboring shooters. And the good thing is that it does not negatively affect your shooting performance: there is no point of impact shift.

CONCLUSION: Practical! And looks very cool on the device.

You can get the OBERLAND ARMS Blast Deflector directly from OBERLAND ARMS or from your trusted gun dealer. It costs 249 euros.
