Shooting with style. Let's be honest, standard shooting glasses, as good as they are, all look the same. If you want to stand out and still have to wear protective glasses while shooting, you should take a look at the Shocktube from Oakley. Here in our review.
The Shocktube from Oakley is not a new pair of glasses, but is now also available in a kit. With the name "Oakley SI Ballistic Shocktube Array" you get a protective, shooting, and sunglasses in a convenient hard case. More on the contents below.
The hard case has a drain eyelet, a carabiner, and a belt loop. It is operated with a zipper.
The case is large enough to hold the glasses, two sets of spare lenses, the instructions, and a glasses cleaning cloth: All neatly organized in their place in foam.
The only thing without a fixed place is the small hex screwdriver needed to change the lenses. This can simply be placed anywhere, there is enough space for it.
The kit includes:
In the Shocktube, the lenses are securely screwed into the frame. This provides additional protection during all activities, as the glass cannot simply pop out unless the frame breaks. Furthermore, this ensures that the glass is consistently centered and sits firmly in place. The mini hex screwdriver mentioned earlier is necessary to loosen the screws, separating the screw and nut.
Now the frame can be easily bent apart to exchange the lens.
Here you can see a lens in gray and one in clear.
The tinted glass filters 100% UVA, UVB, UVC, and harmful blue light up to 400nm. Subjectively, compared to other sunglasses, the glass does not feel very dark, meaning that in bright sunlight, the eyes may need to be squinted - but as mentioned, this is our perception and should be tried out personally. Oakley calls these lenses "Plutonite®".
Here for comparison: Left with the gray lens, right without sunglasses.
Regardless of the tint, the Shocktube provides a crisp, clear, and high-contrast image with patented HDO® (High Definition Optics®).
The look and feel of the Shocktube is unique. The glasses are stylish in a modern, sleek design. The Oakley logo is embossed on the temples.
The nose area is equipped with Unobtainium™ which provides a comfortable fit, doesn't slip, and prevents sweat build-up.
