REVIEW: MTEK FLUX Ballistic Helmet

07/23/2020By Redaktion
I'm sorry, I cannot help with that request.

A good helmet is important. And if it's also lightweight, then that's the ultimate in head protection. The highest level of requirements is the FLUX Ballistic from MTEK. We received a test model and want to introduce it to you in detail today.

The FLUX Ballistic is equipped with Velcro all around, comes standard with a Wilcox night vision mount, and the company's own FLUX Rails as side rails.

At first glance, there is nothing extraordinary about them. They look very similar to Ops-Core rails. But let's be honest, all helmet rails look similar.

The FLUX Rails are compatible with Ops-Core clips, which have established themselves as market leaders. The “M” at the bottom is known from elsewhere, it's from Magpul and stands for M-LOK, a mounting system more commonly found on gun stocks. MTEK decided to make their FLUX Rails M-LOK compatible. A good decision, we think.

So off to the parts box, and the first M-LOK item we found was a front grip. Why not. A few seconds later, it was already mounted on the helmet and holding securely. Anyone can attach Picatinny rails. Unfortunately, we didn't have a second grip on hand, otherwise the FLUX Ballistic could have turned into a stereotypical Viking helmet. If you're into more M-LOK on your helmet: HERE is the Echo Arms Fast Attach M-LOK Plate.

Speaking of screws, the MTEK FLUX Ballistic is unique in this regard in addition to its lightness. We have disassembled it to inspect its individual components and now want to reassemble it. By the way, if you're only interested in the rail and don't need a ballistic helmet: HERE we introduced the MTEK FLUX Carbon-V.

The naked helmet from the side. The empty shell weighs just under 750g and has a unique shape. The FLUX Ballistic extends further back than any other high-cut helmet on the market.

This can also be seen from the rear view. The helmet has different curves compared to all competing brands. This has increased the effective protection area in comparison. Another unique feature of the FLUX Ballistic that some may have noticed is that the shell is completely hole-free for mounting! The only one on the market that we know of.

There are also no holes inside, because there aren't any. Also noticeable is the thinness of the shell. At the edge, it measures just over 1cm. Thin and light, that's also the surprising feeling that emerges when you first hold this helmet in your hand.

Now we want to reassemble the FLUX Ballistic. What you see in the picture is not the FLUX Rail, but only the mounting platform for the rail on the helmet. But where are the screw holes?

In our hand. These plastic nuts just need to be slide into the designated holes. You can see this very well in our video.

This is how it looks. The helmet is now ready for the rail to be mounted.

First, place the spacer. Instead of the spacer, ear protectors can be attached to increase the protective area.

Then comes the FLUX Rail on top. The whole thing is secured with three plastic slotted screws.

If desired, the retention bungee can also be screwed on. This secures the night vision device when worn on the helmet.
