REVIEW: MORDOR TAC Chestrig D3 "Wagner"

01/31/2023By Redaktion

Today we have another review focusing on gear from the East. Just to clarify, we are here to talk about equipment, not politics. So let's take a closer look at the small Chestrig from Russia. This is about Gear, not opera music. MORDOR TAC from Russia has a small D3 Chestrig in their lineup, whose name suggests that it is used by the Russian PMCs of "Wagner".

At first glance, it's a classic Micro Rig with four magazine pockets and a few other pockets. Overall, the craftsmanship and material seem very good. It's not Cordura Nylon, but definitely something similarly durable. Allegedly, the rig was built for use in Syria.

Since the name is a reference to the D3CR by Haley Strategic, here is a direct size comparison. Both are the same size and offer roughly the same amount of space. The Wagner Rig is intended as a pure ammunition carrier, so there are no multipurpose pockets, only ammunition pockets. More on that later.

The harness system is designed as a classic H-harness. There isn't much that can be adjusted here.

The length adjustment is done via the buckles on the side. The 25 mm webbing is not rigid, but rather like a wide, tough, elastic band. This ensures a good grip. A very interesting choice of material that we haven't seen anywhere else. We've been using the Wagner Rig for over a year now and so far everything is holding up great.

There are no loops for PTTs or cables on the chest straps. Surprisingly, the Wagner Rig is mostly IR-Safe, with only a few small areas. It retains its shading under night vision goggles.

Due to the amount of ammunition, the carrier is padded with 3D mesh. Works quite well.

The same mesh can also be found on the back of the panel. Not the typical velcro you would expect from Western rigs. The two straps are intended to mount an accompanying waist pouch.

Pockets

But now to the compartments. In total, you have five open magazine pockets with elastic. AK, M4, AUG magazines fit perfectly. Unfortunately, G36 fits less well. G-cleared ones fit halfway, but the G36 just has a bulky magazine. .308 magazines also do not fit in.

Inside, the magazine pockets are reinforced with a plastic plate along the entire length. So to speak, Poormans Kydex, but it works great.

The fifth magazine pocket is directly attached to the second from the left (from your perspective, when you have put on the Wagner Rig). On the outside there are four MOLLE/PALS loops with Velcro on them.

On the far left you will find two classic pistol magazine pockets. A multitool or similar also fits great in here securely against loss.

Two hand grenade pockets with an unusual closure complete the selection of pockets.

The flap is opened from back to front and the grenade is pushed out of the pocket by means of a strap. The same principle is at work in some phone cases. These pockets also fit a small radio.

With the included adapters, the Wagner Rig can also be attached to the plate carrier of your choice. A lot of looping work is necessary for this, but it works. You just need a cummerbund with MOLLE/PALS.

CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a micro rig with plenty of space for ammunition for long-range stays, then the Wagner Rig is the right choice. Five rifle magazines, two pistol mags, and two hand grenades (where allowed) in a small space is quite unbeatable. The workmanship and the materials chosen are very robust and well executed. Overall, you can't go wrong with this piece of gear.

The Chestrig D3 "Wagner" is available directly from Grey Shop in Russia starting at 122.54 euros in five different colors or patterns.
