REVIEW: Merrell Moab Ventilator Low - Version 2015

08/05/2015By Redaktion

Merrell has been manufacturing outdoor shoes with subtle colors for years, which are also very popular among special forces. For example, the "Sawtooth" model was seen with the SEALs and other ankle-high boots followed. For warm days or for training, waterproof and high boots are not necessary, so many models also have a low-cut version. Today we present to you the Merrell Moab Ventilator Low, which we have been wearing for some time.

The Moab model has been available in various versions for several years, whether ankle-high, flat, with or without Goretex, gray or brown - the consumer has almost no limits here. The Moab Ventilator Low is a flat shoe without a Goretex membrane, which provides a good foot climate especially in warm weather.

The shoe's surface is made of suede leather, which, in combination with mesh inserts, ensures a breathable step. In size 42, a pair weighs 840 grams, so the shoe can also be worn comfortably during training. The eyelets of the shoelaces are in a subtle orange color and have reflective yarn in the middle, which reflects when illuminated. The heel and tongue are well padded, and there is also a loop for easy entry. The Moab closes at the front with a rubberized scuff guard, with part of the sole being raised at the front.

The sole itself is a Vibram sole with good traction and a soft rolling action. The insole (AirCushion) is very plain and not necessarily the best - the previous model used an OrthoLite insole which was much better. The Ventilator is also slightly lighter in color than before, but still within an acceptable range - although it should be mentioned that the color is still called "Earth."

The current version is made in China, so the country of manufacture has also changed - previously this shoe came from Vietnam.

CONCLUSION: With a decent sole, the Merrell Moab Ventilator Low is a perfect all-rounder that is comfortable to wear, whether in light terrain or in the city. The sole provides excellent grip and rolls smoothly. The construction also leaves nothing to be desired, and even after several weeks of daily wear, there is no visible wear and tear.

The Moab is available in Earth, various shades of gray, Black, or Kangaroo (light brown with blue) at many retailers in Germany for around €90
