REVIEW: Maxpedition Micro Pocket Organizer

10/12/2013By Redaktion

You are sitting in the forest. All alone. Suddenly you need a lighter. Or your pocket knife. Or your pen. Which pocket did you put it in again? Bet you don't remember. A little tip: the sought-after item is always in the last possible pocket! Since that really annoys us, we took a look at the Maxpedition Micro Pocket Organizer. The concept? A small pouch (size: 14x9x2.5cm) with slots and elastic loops where you can store all the "odds and ends" of an outdoor pant.

Maxpedition Pocket_2The pouch is certainly not comparable to your girlfriend's lame handbag organizer. It is, according to Maxpedition, particularly "heavy duty", made of teflon-coated Cordura, YKK zippers, sturdy mesh, thick rubber loops. The front of this little handyman is adorned with the Maxpedition logo (by the way: on the larger versions you can attach your own patch). Additionally, there is a practical mesh pocket on the front which, however, becomes less usable when the pouch is fully packed.

The back is empty, except for the carrying handle. It's quite handy when you pull the pouch out of your cargo pants. However, an additional belt loop or MOLLE loop would have been a nice addition. The insides then reveal the purpose of the whole thing: on the left side, there is a slot pocket and 3 elastic slots each with a width of 2.5 cm. On the right side, there is the same slot pocket, above it two wider slots, with a width of 3.8 cm, and a securing loop.

In our example, the following items were stored in the organizer:

Left side: compass, band-aids, FireSteel with striker, permanent marker, lighter, toothpick, headlamp

Right side: two pencils, 4 fire starter sticks, a "little Spork", a notepad, a 60L garbage bag, a folding knife, paper clips, safety pins.

Outside: rolled up duct tape.

Maxpedition Pocket_4You can fit quite a lot in there, here is a layout of all the items that fit. Generally, the pouch is too big for a regular pocket. However, it fits perfectly in cargo pants. You can also take it with you in a backpack. Therefore, the pouch is also great for everyday carry (EDC).

CONCLUSION: An extremely practical, life-facilitating organizer. Affordable for the price. "Almost square, practical, good!"

The Maxpedition Micro Pocket Organizer is available at Maxpedition.de in Olive Green, Khaki, and Black. It costs 17.50 Euro.
