REVIEW: Magnum Intrepid HPi Multicam

05/04/2013By Redaktion

Everyone knows the problem: as soon as you are a little bit outdoors, your shoes look dirty. Magnum has developed an effective remedy with the Intrepid HPi Multicam, because what is camouflaged can only better camouflage dirt! But not only the design is striking, the light weight (which of course varies depending on the size) also surprised us. How we liked the shoes in general, you can read here …

The upper part of the shoes consists of a seamless piece in Multicam, additionally protected by an "ion-mask" layer against the elements. We wore the shoes in the rain and on wet ground (but not mud) and had no problems with moisture getting in. The rubber cap on the toes provides good protection when bumping or hitting something. The lateral support is - as is usual with low shoes - not comparable to higher boots, which is why we would recommend different models for field use.

At the bottom, the shoe has a Vibram outsole designed for a variety of terrains. Like almost all rubber soles, it squeaks on wet stone surfaces. The Multicam pattern is not applied but cast, so it is not lost due to wear and tear. Under the insole, there is a midsole with cushioning and stabilizing effects. Walking with the shoes is quite comfortable, but we do not see them as a replacement for specialized products (running shoes optimized for specific terrains).

CONCLUSION: All in all, we see the Magnum Intrepid HPi Multicam as very good all-round shoes, as long as you can live with the fact that some people might look askance at you because of the camouflage color. You can wear them in the city as well as in nature, with the aforementioned limitation that they are low shoes. For more discreet use, there is also a version in black. It is important to note that our shoes were size 45, but correspond to a size 46!

The shoes are not very easy to find, so either consult the Magnum Online Store, ask a trusted Magnum dealer, or search on eBay. The price is usually just under EUR 100.
