REVIEW: L2G05 - Wilcox vs. Emerson

03/30/2013By Redaktion

Helmets are the master class, NVG Mounts are a bit of a curse for every collector, especially those interested in American equipment. In the picture we see the L2G05 - the real mount from Wilcox, below in the article the replica from Emerson. Finally, there is a good, affordable night vision mount for a SEALs helmet. However, SPARTANAT explains why this is almost too late here.

At first glance, there is no major difference between the original and the replica. The original is mostly made of titanium, while the replica is made of aluminum. But even when holding it in hand, the weight difference is not extremely noticeable.

Side by side, you can see that the markings are also very accurate. The original on the right has a functional Break Away Feature - when set (small lever to the right), the Rhino with the night vision device falls off if the wearer collides with something, which is supposed to protect the neck and head. We are sure that this is also the case with the replica.

But somehow it resisted when we wanted to test it. And since after "tight" comes "tighter" and after that "off," we played it safe and did not insist that the feature also works on the replica.

Postscript:

The Break Away Feature works, but only very strictly. With the help of a screwdriver as a lever, the arm could be detached from the shroud. By the way, the arm fits perfectly on the plastic body of the L3G24 clones from TMC. After disassembling the Break Away mechanism and replacing the small springs with softer ones, it now works wonderfully.

CONCLUSION: L2G05 has been the dream of every collector until recently. This NVG Mount from Wilcox has not been produced for some time. SEALs are increasingly seen wearing the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet Maritime with the VAS Shroud from Ops-Core and another Wilcox arm that matches. But both are still around, and you can also use L2G05 on FAST or MICH 2000 and 2001.

Otherwise, the only thing to say about this Emerson copy is: Perfect! And all for one-sixth of the price of the original. Those who mount a real night vision device stick with the real Wilcox. Those who don't need that now have an extremely realistic alternative.

The original Wilcox L2G05 can be found on Ebay.com for around $600. The Emerson L2G05 is available, for example, at J.K. Army for $91.50 (excluding shipping).
