REVIEW: Kitanica Mark VI Jacket

06/30/2015By Redaktion

We know Cordura: Plate carriers and rigs are made from it, as well as a lot of equipment. We have also seen this durable material on the knees of field pants. Everything on this jacket is also Cordura: KITANICA has chosen this material because it can withstand a lot. And with a specially water-repellent treated surface, it creates an exceptional jacket that we have examined for you.

SONY DSCCordura is a tough material, which is why there is a finely padded collar. When closed, you can press your chin against it comfortably, and it keeps you sealed against wind and weather. The Mark VI is water-repellent, but not waterproof. It is not a rain jacket, but it holds up well.

SONY DSCSince everything good comes from above, the hood, which is built into the collar, is also a big plus. Very classic shape, good coverage. Fits well. Normally, you would simply have it rolled up where it is now, in the collar.

SONY DSCThe other features on the jacket are very classic: covered pen pockets, one pocket on each arm. The Mark VI has plenty of storage space for small items on the go.

SONY DSCThe KITANICA logo is visible on the cover. Slanted hand pockets are convenient for reaching in, with Velcro above for the inevitable patch. By the way, not enough patches are worn.

SONY DSCLarge hand pockets are ideal for hiding your hands in them when it's cold. Lined with fleece inside, they keep you nice and warm.

SONY DSCThe keyword here is inside: there is a comfortable lining and a closable inside pocket for items you want to take with you.

SONY DSCThis is not standard: We tested the jacket over the winter and found that the open bottom without a way to cinch it might be good for the warm winters in the southern USA, but it's not suitable for our region.

SONY DSCSo, our trusted tailor added an elastic drawstring and modified the jacket. This makes it look like a hip jacket, but in reality, it is longer and goes over the butt.

CONCLUSION: The Mark VI from KITANICA is a fortress among jackets: Cordura as jacket material is really tough and we would have guessed it to be more than 330D. The jacket itself is very "tacticool" and of top quality. For modifying it for our region: KITANICA, please forgive us.

You can get the Kitanica Mark VI jacket directly in the USA from KITANICA for $449. KITANICA can also be found in Germany at ASMC.
