We accept that it is hot in the summer. Sometimes, however, we need cold not just for refreshment, but because it helps: for example, cold compresses are applied to strains or other injuries. It helps and is good. But not always at hand. The Instant Cold Pack is the chemical solution to the problem.
The Instant Cold Pack has granules inside and a bladder with a liquid. When you squeeze tightly, the bladder bursts and cold is created from the chemical reaction with the granules.
Then you can apply the pack to the injury, here a sprain on the ankle (we always test personally). The packaging says not longer than 20 minutes, but there is actually no risk of anything freezing. The pack is cool, but not cold. After 20 minutes, it has already returned to body temperature.
CONCLUSION: Nice to have, but not a "must-have." The packs we had were differently cold, which may be due to a slightly varying filling of granules. They could have been much colder, as they can be easily replaced with a simple cold compress. Nevertheless, it may be useful for an extended first aid kit to have it when you need it.
You can buy the Instant Cold Pack in Germany at CAMOSTORE.DE for 5.50 Euros.
