REVIEW: Horizontal Ten-Speed Pouch by BFG

If you are looking for extremely lightweight magazine pouches, you have probably come across Blue Force Gear before. But it doesn't always have to be vertical: today we want to introduce you to the Horizontal Ten-Speed Pouch from Blue Force Gear (BFG).
When unpacked, the pouch looks like this. An elastic Multicam fabric is sewn onto a nylon laminate fabric called ULTRAcomp. This size is for three AR15 magazines.
On the back, you can see that the MOLLE strips, for example, are one piece with the back of the pouch.
The MOLLE system with the shape and extended loops, as well as the fastening, is a BFG-patented system called "Helium Whisper". In addition, the observer also immediately notices that all important segments are sewn multiple times. This, of course, helps with durability. To keep the MOLLE strips in place after attachment, they are velcroed into the last loop. This is quite strong and you don't have to worry about the pouch coming off on its own. An interesting detail, aside from the fabric that is laser-cut, are these black markings. These are not seams, but reference points for assembly so that everything sits where it should. The entire construction is extremely slim thanks to the fabrics used and the helpful technology. The width at the center is only four millimeters. The thickest part, of course, are the MOLLE ends that are folded over, measuring eight millimeters there. The total weight of the pouch is just 87 grams. Every gram counts when you have to carry it. Threading is very simple and quick thanks to the Helium Whisper method. There is a recess in between so that you don't have to weave back and forth after attaching each MOLLE strip. This is how it looks when mounted on the back of our Crye JPC. Not much of the special alignment is visible. And filled with magazines. They sit very securely in it and the carrier does not have to worry about them slipping out. When fully loaded, you can feel the construction move and ripple slightly, but thanks to the secure mounting, this is also not a problem. Placed on the back, you can still reach another magazine. Alternatively, the companion behind can access the reserve. Other options for a horizontal pouch would of course be the backpack on the outside, if it has MOLLE, or even the inside, as some also offer the possibility of mounting MOLLE pouches there. If you do not like the horizontal mounting option, the pouch is also available in the regular vertical version. Here is a comparison with a slightly older Ten-Speed Pouch in the vertical version. The elastic fabric loses color at the edges of the magazines, but otherwise everything is still in top condition. You can also see that in the past, simple nylon fabric was used for MOLLE mounting, whereas today's thin Helium Whisper laminate is much better.

CONCLUSION: BFG delivers - as usual - top quality. The pouch is excellently crafted and, as simple as it may be, offers many possibilities to store things other than magazines. The horizontal version is certainly not for everyone, but it offers the possibility to satisfy some by storing more magazines in an unusual way. Whether vertical or horizontal, the magazines fit.
