REVIEW: Helmet Counter Weight - Toy Soldier and Ferro Concepts

10/17/2012By Redaktion

Who has brains, protects them. For this, there is a helmet. If you have brains, you might also get night vision goggles, so you can act even when it gets dark. Only that the thing in the front of the helmet becomes heavy over time and starts to hurt your neck. So you need a balance, Helmet Counterweight Pouches take a counterweight, be it lead, be it batteries. We looked at two from Ferro Concepts and Toy Soldier for you.

Here are the two candidates, Toy Soldier on the left and Ferro Concepts on the right. There is no uniform size, and the ways the two helmet pouches were made are different. The left one closes with press studs and Velcro, the right one only with Velcro. Both pouches here are in AOR1.

Before God and Velcro, all are equal: the back shows itself scratchy and waits for the fluff that is glued to the helmet. The Velcro then holds easily and securely.

Two ways to reach the goal: Toy Soldier (left) has chosen lightweight 330 Cordura as material and the pouch has four flaps, three of which folded together form the body and are Velcroed, the top flap then closes with Velcro and press studs. Ferro Concepts (right) has an extra-wide MOLLE strip as material, and was folded over and provided with small Cordura side walls: so it is a pouch with a closing flap from above.

CONCLUSION: Two Counterweight Pouches, both work equally well and offer space to successfully carry additional batteries. The Toy Soldier is wider, the Ferro Concepts is taller. (Another model - the one from Vel-Tye - you can see in this review here.)

You can get the Helmet Counter Weight Bag from Toy Soldier in Multicam, AOR1, AOR2, Khaki Black, and Foliage for $18.50 (excluding shipping). The HCW Helmet Counter Weight Pouch from Ferro Concepts costs 14.50 CAD (excluding shipping) and is available in Coyote Brown, Desert Digital, and Multicam.
