REVIEW: Helikon Tex Wolfhound Jacket

The Wolfhound Jacket is one of the first insulated jackets from Helikon-Tex. It also serves as a first insulated mid-layer. In this SPARTANAT Review, we will show you how it performs and what sets it apart.Practical! A bag to pack the jacket into is included. It also has all the essentials listed. Made of 100% nylon and lined with CLIMASHIELD APEX 67g/m². The weight of the jacket is 435 grams.Unpacked, ready to put on right away. The feel is pleasant and the YKK zipper closes comfortably. The zipper, along with all others on the jacket, is fitted with nylon cord and rubber ends, making handling easier and more comfortable. Gloved operators will have no issues.Front view. We opted for the Shadow Grey color, as we primarily intend to use it in civilian settings. You can generally choose between the colors Black/Coyote/Camogrom/Shadow Grey/Alpha Green/Taiga Green and the new PenCott WildWood. There should be something for everyone in that selection.We find the fit to be athletic. Similar jackets are usually cut slightly larger. More on that later. For now, let's focus on the sleeves. No, we're not trying to imitate Spiderman, we just want to show you the nice VersaStretch end piece. It ensures the jacket closes snugly.Outwardly, this tapers down and prevents wind from entering the jacket and warmth from escaping.Additional protection against creeping cold: the drawstring at the bottom of the jacket on both sides.VersaStretch is also found under the armpits. It protects the jacket from abrasion and provides breathability and freedom of movement. Overall, the entire jacket is breathable.The collar is lined with fleece on the inside. It provides warmth and feels comfortable against the skin.When the collar is closed, there's no need to fear suffocation. It's just the right fit. The insulation also extends high up into the collar.The Wolfhound Jacket is only available in one version, without a hood. So, you'll need a hood or another jacket if needed.Fleece is also found in the front side pockets, but only on the outer side.When the wind blows, you can stow your hands in there comfortably. There's plenty of room for your phone, wallet, and other essentials too.
