REVIEW: Helikon Tex Bushcraft Satchel

12/02/2016By Redaktion

"Walking is the miller's delight", as the lyrics of a well-known folk song say. Those who hike also need equipment - for example, to stay outdoors overnight. For bushcrafters, these essentials can be very minimal, but they still need to be stored in a bag. Helikon Tex now offers the Bushcraft Satchel which we have taken a closer look at.
bushcraft_satchel2Everything hangs on one strap: Thanks to the 50mm wide, detachable shoulder strap, the satchel is very comfortable to wear, even with slightly heavier loads. The bag itself is made of lightweight 500D Cordura and has a volume of approximately 17 liters and an empty weight of just under 430 g.

bushcraft_satchel3On the outside there is a zippered compartment with a length of 30cm and a height of 20cm, where you can store some easily accessible items, such as a small ALSE panel for emergency signaling and map material for orientation, so that the former does not happen.bushcraft_satchel4The main compartment, which is closed by a two-way zipper, turned inside out. Very minimalistic. On the left and right, there are two compartments with elastic bands for water bottles and similar items. There is also a zippered mesh pocket for various small items.bushcraft_satchel5On the outside, there are four integrated sheaths on the left and right (a total of 4) for axes or folding saws. One is sewn at the bottom, the other is open. The closed one can be used for flashlights, keys (best with a lanyard), and other items. Knives, like the ASEK II, can be attached to the open one with some paracord. A 25mm webbing is sewn around the bottom for stability and for external load attachment, such as jackets or blankets/sleeping bags. A 4 x 2 MOLLE field is essential, as well as compression straps.bushcraft_satchel6Here is the bag on a person. The color difference between RAL 7013 and Adaptive Green (and Indigo Blue, but that doesn't count) is easily recognizable, the new color from Helikon Tex. Depending on the light, this color is between RAL 7013 and Coyote Brown. A successful choice, we think.bushcraft_satchel7CONCLUSION: The Bushcraft Satchel is a shoulder bag with well-thought-out details. It was developed in cooperation with SurvivalTech, who contributed their experience. This bag is actually intended for woodsmen and bushcrafters, but it is also excellent for EDC and as a tacticool small kit bag.

Available at CAMOSTORE in Coyote, OD, Adaptive Green, and Black for 59.80 € (excluding shipping) and at all other retailers carrying Helikon products.
