Having a stomach is one thing. For some, a man without one is like a sky without stars, for others the beer belly is quite nasty because only the washboard counts. But protrusions forwards can be extremely practical. The fanny pack may be a tourist gimmick from the 1980s, but in the tactical field, it is gaining popularity (MARSOC, for example, seems to have a passion for it). No wonder, you have a lot with you, but you don't have to stuff it in your pockets. Today we are looking at the Bandicoot Waist Pack from Helikon-Tex.
So far, so classic. The Bandicoot is a bit larger than regular fanny packs and has an appealing modernized shape. This includes Velcro on the front. Our photographer's patch fits perfectly there. For example, a small compartment is ideal for papers that you need to carry with you.
But the main fun is the main compartment. It is additionally divided with a mesh compartment and has approximately the volume of two 0.5 beer cans lying side by side.
What is so innovative about the Bandicoot is the stretchy, elastic fabric part that can be Velcroed in, where the carrier can store his essential tools. And - swoosh - pull it out.
Here in detail: pocket knife, flashlight, etc. All at your fingertips, can now also be Velcroed in your backpack if it has Velcro inside.
On the side, there are small, let's say "MOLLE strips" (not exactly, just single-lined, where you can attach something). And a buckle to open the waist belt that holds everything together.
Other side, a G-hook to completely remove the strap from the Bandicoot bag. Then only the bag remains.
Inside, there is a "secret compartment" where you can pack all your secrets. Of course, only if you have any...
You can also use it without the belt. The Bandicoot has a loop on the body, so you can loop it onto your belt. That's a very practical idea.
CONCLUSION: Fanny packs usually have few surprises. However, this one pleasantly surprised us with some innovations. If you don't want the tool row, you can professionally Velcro a holster. And at the same time, the Bandicoot Waist Pack from Helikon stands out with a nice and clever design. By the way, the belly around which you fasten it must not be more than 125 cm...
You can find the Helikon-Tex Bandicoot Waist Pack at all retailers that carry Helikon for 29.00 Euros.
