The legislature requires every driver to have an adequate first aid kit in the vehicle. Most of the ones available for purchase are nice, but everything is always just stuffed into a bag or box. Here, Helikon-Tex offers something very nice: the Automotive Med Kit Pouch (AMK). We took a look at it for you.
This is what the Automotive Med Kit (AMK) looks like in all its glory from the outside. The dimensions are approximately 21x24x8 cm, so it will surely find a nice spot in the car. We have already shown the suggested placement in the cover image above.
The AMK comes with a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap. The strap width is 20 mm and the snap closures can be concealed under a rubber tab when not in use. Carrying it over your shoulder is good to prevent the bag from getting lost when things get serious. But that's not its main purpose, so the narrow strap fits just right.
Since most accidents happen at night and/or in poor visibility, the bag is equipped with plenty of reflectors. Large sewn-on Star of Life symbols can be found on the two carrying handles, on the two small tabs on the underside, and on the Velcro area.
On the back, there are two hidden Velcro strips. Mysterious at first glance.
Extremely practical on second glance: These are used to securely attach the AMK to the vehicle interior. Very practical and well thought out.
Moreover, the AMK is also designed in height so that it fits under most seats without any problems. This means plenty of storage space so that everything is at hand when you need it.
But now, let's talk about the important part, the inside. When the two-way zipper is opened, the bag can be completely unfolded. You can see two mesh pockets and a fluffy divider panel. We have already started filling it with supplies.
This divider panel can be folded down to provide access to more items. On the divider panel, there are Velcro loops in various sizes on both sides. This allows everyone to customize the interior to their needs. The Velcro modules on the right hold the emergency blanket, and in the middle, various bandaging materials.
To keep everything in place, there are countless rubber loops and adjustable rubber cords available. The cords can be removed with little effort if not needed. Bandages go in the rubber loops. You can see how little is stored here and how much can fit in.
The divider panel is also only attached with Velcro and can be removed. It can be attached to the handle side, as seen before, or on the opposite side. This way, it can be configured like its own IFAK, ready to be taken out and used.
Here is a detailed view of the two mesh pockets again. Very useful for writing materials or small items. A pen or better yet a pencil should always be included, Rite in the Rain, a lighter, duct tape, a small survival kit just in case.
CONCLUSION: Finally, a way to have the first aid kit neatly organized and within reach in the vehicle. With its practical features, this bag can also be carried as an extended IFAK for the shooting range or other purposes.
Available directly from Helikon-Tex in many patterns for €47.90 excluding shipping, and from all German retailers carrying Helikon-Tex, such as Camostore or TacOpsGear. The bag comes empty, so you can adapt it to your needs.
