A happy shooter is a shooter who hits the target, preferably always in the bull's-eye or at least close. For large distances, a man of the world sometimes needs a cushion. To make it sound more masculine: a Shooting Bag. Helikon-Tex now offers such products and we took a closer look at them.
First of all: the Accuracy Shooting Bags come unfilled. We overlooked this and were a bit surprised. The first question that arises is: what to fill them with? Many swear by rice (uncooked) or sand. We find both to be very moisture-sensitive and rather heavy. 6mm airsoft pellets are also popular, but they are also on the heavier side. We opted for polystyrene balls. You can find these in small neck pillows or stuffed animals in various sizes.
Simply carefully tear or cut open and start pouring slowly. It's best to have a vacuum cleaner ready, you'll need it. The advantage of the polystyrene balls is their very light weight. Filled with rice, the 25 x 16 cm roller would have weighed around 3 kg, now it's only 300 g.
At the end, you'll need a funnel and something to top it off. With a little patience, you can fill your Shooting Bag to the right plumpness. As you can see, the Shooting Bags are partially made of non-slip material. This serves its purpose very well.
We mainly used the large roll as a support for the binoculars or spotting scopes. This worked really well and allowed us to observe with very little wobbling. All Shooting Bags also come with a small loop for a carabiner. We added a Grimlock right away.
In principle, the Cube offers three different heights. Firstly, the low one with around 7 cm, …
… then the slightly taller one with 16 cm, …
… and the tallest one with 19 cm. This way, you can easily adjust to the shooting position. If you need a few more centimeters, simply squeeze the pad with your hand, and it will rise.
The most important thing when adjusting the pads is not to be delicate. Only if they look like a modern work of art, as in the picture, is it correct. Before anyone asks, we covered the rifle with Gun Skins film in PenCott GreenZone. Thanks to the pads, we were able to achieve a noticeably better shot pattern, and the weight of the weapon didn't bother us in the gun bag. From now on, they are always with us when we go to the shooting range, even if it's just for a short nap.
CONCLUSION: Very practical cushions that bring a smile to shooters' faces and also work very well as supports for binoculars. Unfortunately, they come unfilled, but that's not necessarily a disadvantage, as we showed you. Many will like to fill the pads according to their own preferences. Thanks to the zipper, the filling can also be adjusted as needed.
Available directly from Helikon-Tex, the Cube for €14.40 excl. shipping or the larger Roller for €17.40 excl. shipping and at all retailers selling Helikon-Tex products such as Camostore or TacOpsGear.
