Portable disco lights on helmets are now seen on almost everyone. Most are small and compact, but have a relatively large height. Different Hel-Star 4 and 5 from Core Survival. We took a closer look at the models 405 and 503 for you.
The difference between Hel-Star 4 and Hel-Star 5 is the number of light modes. With the Helstar 4, you can choose from a total of 6 models with two light modes each, while with Hel-Star 5, you can choose from 8 models with three light modes each. These differ in the end only by the LED color and light mode.
Now to the construction. These 86g (with battery) lightweight blinkers consist of a main body with on/off and mode selection switch, and a flexible (~11 cm long) light element. Due to this construction, the blinker is larger than almost all competitors but only 2.5 cm high. Operation is simple. Choose the function with the slide switch and turn it on or off with the other slide switch. The switches are intentionally difficult to adjust to prevent accidental adjustment or activation.
A CR123A photo battery is required as the battery, which is in a screwed compartment at home. To change it, you need a cross-head screwdriver, such as a Leatherman, which you should always have with you anyway.
Here is a picture of the unusual packaging and the entire scope of delivery, consisting of: blinker, self-adhesive Velcro strips, spare sealing rings and battery cover screws, and instructions. The batteries are also included in the delivery.
CONCLUSION: A top-class marker light. Slightly long but very flat. With the flexible light part, this light fits perfectly on all helmet shapes.
Available at TACWRK; the Hel-Star4 for €183.90, the Hel-Star5 for €211.90 each excluding shipping
