REVIEW: Haley Strategic D3CR Chest Rig

If you set out to work in the disruption zone, you need special equipment. That's what Travis Haley wants to tell us when he talks about "Disruptive Environments", the equipment you need to prepare for. Bringing order to chaos, being prepared for any situation. For example, with the Disruptive Environments Chest Rig – which makes up the nice abbreviation D3CR – distributed by Haley Strategic Partners. We took a closer look at it for you.

The D3CR – here in Kryptek Mandrake – from the front and back: it consists of a front panel that holds four magazines (M4, AUG, AK ...) as well as two pistol magazines and three utility pockets. The two-row design makes for a very compact whole. The rig is worn with an H-harness system that can be unclipped, as well as the strap around the waist. The strapping system is kept simple. Three MOLLE strips are located on the front over the clips, which are well-suited for attaching a VIP light, for example. The tourniquet is also easily accessible on the chest.

On the back, the horizontal H-line is provided with velcro to attach a patch. The rear gallery, which determines the dimensions of the D3CR, is occupied by the four magazines. They are held in place by shock cord with sturdy pull tabs and a non-slip surface. In front of them, the two pistol compartments are visible, here filled with Glock 19 magazines.

In the middle, next to the pistol magazines, there is an open all-purpose pocket, which can be adjusted in size with shock cord. Here we have put a Red Bull Cola. A flash bang would also fit.

On the right and left, two lockable compartments, each about the size of three cigarette packs, close off the rig. A small radio, gloves, first aid material, or a snack can go in here. And that's all with the whole D3CR. Here we see it laid out on the ground, the harness unclipped.

Because you can also ideally attach the D3CR to a prepared plate carrier with its clips. Attach it at the top, on the sides as well, and the back has velcro to be fixed on a prepared carrier. A very appealing idea, which fascinated us during our first Real Steel Gear Review years ago – with the Hugger by Vel-Tye and its Low-Vis Rig.

CONCLUSION: The Disruptive Environments Chest Rig by Haley Strategic is a very practical piece of gear. Minimalistic, mission-oriented, versatile, and expandable. It's no wonder it's seen so often, also thanks to very effective marketing. Although Haley isn't reinventing the wheel, as the D3CR is a successful example of rebranding. The original comes from Extrem Gear Labs and is called the Variable Objective Chest Rig (VOCR) there. It comes in versions for right and left-handed users and with three, four, or five magazines. The HSP D3CR is a bit cheaper though...

You can get the Haley Strategic D3CR Chest Rig directly from HSP in the USA for $179 or in Europe from Tactical Kit UK for £170 (both excluding shipping).
