REVIEW: GUNSKINS - MAG SKIN

06/03/2017By Redaktion
Recently we introduced you to Gearskin - a method of camouflaging equipment and weapons with an elastic fabric instead of using spray paint. The manufacturer GunSkins® from the USA also has weapon and magazine covers that we want to show you today. In addition to its universal products that fit almost any weapon and magazine, GunSkins also has special templates designed for specific firearms like the AR15, the AK47, magazine bases of pistols, or the MagSkins we tested for AR15 magazines. This not only enhances the look of the magazines but also offers some protection against scratches and impacts. We used PMags from Magpul without windows for our self-experiment. Magazines with windows would cover the window, or with the "Punisher" motif we chose, an unsightly gap would appear. So, it's best to choose motif templates for magazines without windows, and camouflage print templates can be cut accordingly to keep the window free. The MagSkins come in a simple cardboard sleeve containing six skins, suitable for three magazines in total. The back of the packaging has a very simple three-step instruction and a note about an installation video: The instructions are in English but easy to understand even if you don't speak the language. Preparation: - Clean, dry, and grease-free the magazine - The six motifs come on a sheet. It is recommended to roughly cut out each motif and then cut along the template's incisions - Watch out for marking for right and left side. The installation is indeed very simple and can be done within minutes. Peel the motif from the carrier film and center it on the magazine. Press firmly, especially at the edges. Then, warm up the edges first, and press them again. The manufacturer's video uses a heat gun, but a standard hairdryer works just as well. Once the edges are in place, move on to the main side, heat it and press it down. Once one side of the magazine is done, repeat the process on the other side. Finally, it's best to warm up all sides again and gently press them to bring out the contours better. Once applied, the skins look very good. They are grippy, retain the magazine's contours, and enhance the aesthetic appearance. You can also carefully cut out the motif and stick it, for example, on the buttstock. **VERDICT:** Gunskins® does not disappoint. The installation is very easy and can be completed in minutes. If you're someone who appreciates a bit of individuality, then these MagSkins from Gunskin are highly recommended. Suitable for plastic and metal magazines, these skins offer a good range of motifs for visual customization, and if you ever get tired of it, the skins can be easily removed without leaving any residue. GunSkins® are available at **HEDE Tactical parts** upon request. Currently, they only have Gearskins in stock. Special thanks to KhiPa from **KL Strategic** for the testing and implementation.
