REVIEW: Gerber Suspension-NXT Multitool

A pair of pliers and a knife should always be at hand in everyday life. This combo offers a multitool and many other practical tools. The Gerber Suspension-NXT is the revision of its predecessor, the Gerber Suspension, and we have extensively tested it.

This is how it looks when folded in hand. The multitool is 10.5 cm long, 4 cm wide and about 1.5 cm thick. The tool weighs 190 grams due to the triangular cutouts in the handle. The holes make it easier for dirt to get in, but also easier to get out.

The resistance to unfolding is well chosen. Not too tight and not too loose. The roughly 8 cm long belt clip is clearly visible in the picture. We think it fulfills its function very well and can be easily clipped with just one hand.

The pliers mode. We admit that this was our primary use. The pliers are spring-loaded, which makes working with them much easier.

The detail of the pliers head. In principle, this is a pointed combination pliers. Very practical for everyday use. The wire cutter does not have a replaceable blade.

At the end of the handle, additional tools are housed. From bottom to top: File with flathead screwdriver (1 mm thick), eel and a crosshead screwdriver (Philips #2). It is very well solved here that the screwdriver head is 3.5 cm away from the handle. This makes screwing really fun because the knuckles are not hit.

On the back of the file, you will find a small ruler, better than nothing. Centimeters and inches are marked here.

At the other end of the handle are seven little helpers. A 6 cm long blade with 2 cm serration, a wide flathead screwdriver (2 mm thick) with a cable stripper, a bottle-can opener combo with a small screwdriver (0.5 mm thick), and scissors.

When unfolded, it already looks more like a pair of scissors. Simple and practical, it cuts very well.

To work safely, the tools are automatically locked. To store them, simply push the small slider forward to unlock. Just as the small pictogram suggests.

One can never be too safe. At the end, an eyelet for a retention cord was installed.

The Suspension-NXT is roughly the size of a Glock 17 magazine. So it fits perfectly in a pistol magazine pocket.

Also well thought out is the positioning of the blade. The edge is flush with the handle. This allows the lunch meat to be sliced very finely. Enjoy your meal!

CONCLUSION: We really like the Gerber Suspension.NXT multitool. Compared to other multitools, it is slightly larger, but also surprisingly light. The selection of tools convinced us, and everything you need for everyday life is there. It has proven to be a good EDC tool for us. And all at a very appealing price.
