REVIEW: Gearskin

04/02/2016By Redaktion

Weapons, holsters, and other equipment need to be camouflaged. For this purpose, spray paint from various manufacturers has always been used, with the disadvantage that the paint was difficult to remove. A company from Croatia called Gearskin promises a solution. The camouflage color acts like a second skin on the gear. We tested it out - pictured: holster and Gearskin material.

Gearskin is camouflage fabric with a special adhesive film. This allows the camouflage to stick very well, but also be easily removed. To customize, all you need is scissors, a knife - preferably sharp to make it easier - optionally a ruler and a pen. Then you can get started. We attempted a Serpa holster with Gearskin in a multicam-like camouflage pattern.

And here's the result after less than 10 minutes of work. Not bad for a first attempt. Our knife was a bit dull, resulting in a frayed cutting edge, and we also mismeasured... just not a good day for crafting. Gearskin's website has good instructional videos to help make it easier. The edges and seams can be easily worked with a lighter, making it look nicer.

Here's a close-up of the fabric. A very fine ripstop fabric that also repels water, oil, and acids. We tested the first. We won't let acid near our holster.

We also tried out the classic Woodland Gearskin. With the same good results. Long-term tests will follow and we are curious to see how Gearskin holds up. The initial impression of durability is very good. No danger of it peeling off quickly.

CONCLUSION: Camouflage for everyone and everything! This can be easily achieved with Gearskin. It is particularly suitable for flat surfaces. The use of camouflage fabric provides a grippy texture and a nice, matte camouflage. Highly recommended! And much better than a paint job.

Available directly from Gearskin in 3 sizes (30×30 cm, 30×60 cm,30×105 cm) from €15 to €33.75 in 8 patterns and the range is expanding.
